What a MONUMENTUS Day it is here in BUICK-Land. Not only has Ron "I dont get my hands Derrrty" Moon offered to help me, but he's done so PUBLICALLY for all to see .....and PUBLICALLY be chastised if he doesn't follow through Personally....I think he just wants to see what makes BigRed leave his Stage1 :moonu:behind:moonu: like its tied to a tree. Hmmm....where have I heard that line before ?? YOU GOT A HEMI IN THAT THING MOONDAWGY ?? YardStain - thanks for the offer but it would prolly cost more in gas and tolls to do the round trip than it would to buy one.....but your heart as always is in the right place :beer
Only if you have Rubber Gloves, I don't want to get my hands DIRTY handling that "FLAG" !
YesssSir !! :TU: for the following reasons 1) I've been fighting a problem for some time and its time to fix it. For some reason, I keep getting play in the valve train. With the adjustable rockers, I've been able to quiet the clatter but like most things mechanical its getting worse not better with time. 2) Heads need new Valve Seals - burning a bit too much oil 3) Internals need re-balancing. Since the motor was built, I've broken the stock Harmonic balancer (replaced with Innovations West Fluid-type damper) as well as broken the stock Flex Plate (Replaced with TA's Stock Replacement). I feel not-so- "Good Vibrations" uzzled: 4) Enlarge oil pickup tube - forgot to do this with the original build on this motor. 5) Freshen Up - The motor was installed back in spring of '99 and was literally broken in on the trip to the GSCA Nats in Ohio where I promptly beat the snot out of it for several days. Since then, its seen approx. 25,000 miles - alot of them highway cruisin' on summer trips but also quite alot of local pounding as well as track time :3gears: Its time to open it up and check everything out and make sure all is happy before seriously pounding the snot out of it next year at Cecil. Plus, Better parts are available now that weren't then (Coated bearings, dual groove cam bearings, etc.etc.)....its time for a little preventative maintenance. .....Plus Santa is making a trip from the great White North to Long Island so I figured why not let him take my motor back for the elves to work on ?? :TU: OHHH !!! AND MOST IMPORTANTLY..... 6) I GOTTA Keep Beth and that SportWagon in my Rear:moonu:View or I'll never hear the end of it ou: ou: o No:
Just to keep from having to haul one you borrowed you might try Harbor Freight. Northern is having a sale too but HF is usually chaeper. If space is an issue I think they make a fold up model.
Hey Alan. Thanks for the long reply...I type with one finger you know!! LOL!! It all sounds good. Many new good parts out there for sure.Nothing like a fresh well sealed engine. I noticed a big difference with my 462 being balanced, revs smooth and fast.Might as well do it right when it`s apart. Like yourself and many others on the board I like to "Beat the snot" out of my GS once in a while,so for the guys who do it makes for good insurance to go the extra mile with the internals.Look forward to your future posts.Later,Tony.
Tanks Jim - no harbor freights nearby....shipping is what kills them and northern. Tony...I toasted this motor once (2 builds ago) because of cam bearing meltdown and poor machine shop work ...then sunk a good amount of $$$ into it the last time so "freshening" it now for a 1/4 to 1/3 of what a total rebuild would cost is a good investment. .....not to mention the Smiles per Mile I've gotten from it so far make it a wash - farrrr to many smiles in the past 6 seasons, Most while kickin' TufBuicks :moonu: Hope to meet you some time, Tony !! :TU:
Engine Hoist ALLEN I HAVE ONE RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER FROM YOU AND ITS A FOLD UP FOR EASY STORAGE THE ONLY THING IS THAT IF YOU BORROW IT YOU HAVE TO LET ME HELP.. :beer YOU CAN HAVE IT AS LONG AS YOU LIKE
ERIC !!! :beer :TU: :beer :TU: :beer :TU: :beer :TU: :beer :TU: :beer :TU: I think you and my garage floor are well aquainted uzzled: Lemme Guess.....I supply the Steak Sammich's and let the wrenchin' Begin !! I'll give you a call tonight ?? Will it fit in my Wa-gooon ??? If Not, I get to ride it like a skateboard while you tow me  I'd like to Yank it this Sat or Sun Evening but I haven't even gotten to the prep work yet ou:
Just posted (5) cars on E-Bay and my fingers are to tired to respond to this......... :af:  :af:  :af:  :af:  :af:  :af:  :af:  :af:  :af: .....stop pickin' on my stock STAGE 1 or I'll have to unleash some "BAD BLACK BUICK ON YOUR A**" !!!!!! (and you have been subjected to that a few times haven't you Alan?) OOPPS, gotta go I think I just heard the cash register ringin' !!!!!!
Hey Alan. Thanks,I hope to meet some of the boys someday. The old GS would be working overtime going down to PA or southern NY with the 3.42`s out back.I share a similar sarcastic sense of humour with yourself,Ron,Yardley just to mention a few.Anyway, maybe down the road sometime like I said.Good Luck with the engine pull/teardown and I look forward to some good reading.Later,Tony.
