Wanted: Pic of LOF tinted windshield logo

I'm trying to get a good picture of an LOF glass logo on a tinted GS antenna windshield, preferably 72; but 70 or 71 would probably be the same. Tim R graciously got pictures of his 72 for me, but his is not tinted. Also, it would help to know whether the etching is on the inside or outside. It's not the codes themselves that are important; jut the exact layout of the logo.
You can either post it or e-mail it to me at 72gs455@cox.net.
    Any help appreciated...

Come on, guys! Isn't there somebody out there with an original windshield :ball: ?
Even though these repro guys are making a small fortune off me, they're losing patience!
Just one good pic of the logo would be great, as long as it's a factory tinted LOF.
Here's a little background for those who are wondering what the heck LOF is:
Libby Owens Ford was the company who made just about all the factory glass for our GSs. LOF glass has a little "LOF" shield in the center of the logo, and is instantly recognizable.

John - the logo is on the outside, but is readable from the inside. does that make sense? I'll send you a picture of a '70 windshield tonight.

I can send a picture of the markings on the windshield of our '72 Stage 1 (built in Fremont, CA) but it will be Saturday before I will see the car.

    Gary,
That would be great.... I'll tell the guys at the glass store to hold off a few more days... they've been holding off for weeks now, so another few days won't hurt!
Mike's going to send me one more picture, but we don't think his is tinted.
BTW, Wow, a Fremont Stage 1! That's a sure converstation-starter... when you send me the pics, maybe we can trade a few notes on build dates, etc...
    Thanks.

    better late than never?!

    John,

    Sorry for the slow response.

I took some photos of the front glass marking on our '72 Stage 1 that was built in Fremont, CA and it was weird. It is a LOF shaded glass but instead of "SAFETY PLATE" it says "SAFETY FLOAT". Our Stage 1 was built 3rd week of March '72 and all of the glass in the car is dated Feb or March '72 except the front glass which is dated "TU" which according to my chart means: T=1970 U=July, which is way too early.

So I took photos of my daily driver '72 Skylark (early production car, built in mid August 1971, VIN is 100469). The glass in it is dated "IN" which according to my list is I=June N=1971 which seems about right since all the other glass has the same date.

I have never been able to attach photos on this board:af: . I can always post on the Pontiac boards with no problems, only have trouble with this one. So I have emailed the photo to you. Please post it on here in case someone else would like to see the picture.

    Pictures finally work!

After months without success I can suddenly attach photos!!:TU:

So I will also post the markings on our Stage 1 car that has been sitting in storage for over 10 years waiting its turn for a restoration. We bought the car from the original family and they said they had never changed anything except the tires and radio. This car was originally a radio delete according to the sloan info. The other glass in the car is all dated LY (L=March Y=1972) or XY (X=February).

Note that this marking is etched so it can be read from the outside.

    Thanks!

    Gary,
Many thanks for the great pic's and the legwork to get them. You're right, the Stage 1 glass was replaced. That's the first LOF replacement glass I've seen ("E-Z-Eye"). "TU" is August '73, so your original didn't last too long.... mine didn't last too much longer than that.
The Skylark's, though, looks original. As you said, it was mfr'd March '72, which is VERY close to the date of mfr. of your Skylark. That's very surprising, though, as some of my glass was made as much as 7 months before my car. The soonest I've seen is about 2 months.
    BTW, you have mail.....
    Thanks again~!

    John,
Thanks for the help decodind the glass in the Stage 1 car. I finally realized (thanks to you) what my decodeing problem was, my date chart only covers 1963-1972 and it didn't list a "U" under the listing for the year code but it did have a "U" under the monthes so I had them reversed.

    Stanley,
decoding sometimes confuses me (like on our Stage 1 car) becasue LOF used letters for the month and the year and some of the same letters were used for both (see the list below).

I've seen this in many magazines but the one here in my hand is from the Dec '91 Musclecar Classics, the first letter should be the month and the second should be the year:

    Month Code
    January N
    February X
    March L
    April G
    May J
    June I
    July U
    August T
    September A
    October Y
    November C
    December V

    Calender Year Glass Code
    1963 C
    1964 G
    1965 J
    1966 A
    1967 Z
    1968 X
    1969 V
    1970 T
    1971 N
    1972 Y
    1973 U (THANKS JOHN)

Without knowing that "U" was 1973 you can see how I was confused when I saw the "TU" on or '72 Stage 1 that was built in March, 72. I looked it up backwards which came up with July, 1970, instead of the correct August 1973 (replacement glass). This now makes me curious about the glass in our car. I will start another thread for that.

John, if you have the codes for additional years or know that any of this is incorrect please let us know!

    Glass code chart sources

    :beer (Root Beer)
There is a lot of good info on the Web about decoding LOF glasses. Probably the best for "trivia" is the Camaro Research Group site . It really only applies to first-generation Camaros, but has a lot of general LOF stuff.
Some other sites are: Corvette T-Tops.com and Hemmings
    Hope this helps!
BTW, I have no idea what LOF plant the "C" stands for. Mine are all from the Lathrope, CA, plant ("10"), which is now closed.
Duane, can you help us poor amateurs?

how about decode info for PPG glass?

Anyone know anything about decoding information for PPG glass? My GS has PPG glass and I'd like to get an idea (date/ timeline) of when the glass was replaced.

    Bump- back to the top.

Anyone with any PPG decode info? Not trying to hijack your starter thread John. TTT may get more info for you too on the LOF glass. :)

    Evans,
I sure wish I could help you. Duane is probably busy getting all his original vs. repro parts together for the Restoration Seminar. I did a quick search on the Web and didn't find anything helpful with PPG codes.
    Good luck....
    John
