Is there somewhere on the car that the original real axle ratio code could be found other than the build sheet?
I have heard that the stock ratio of my stage 1 was 3.46?
Well that doesn't seem correct to me because I divided out the tire circumference/rpm in third gear years back and came up with 3.73.
Now I know I'm going to hear that there was slippage in the tranny or my math was off(it wasn't). I would dismiss this but for the simple fact that the guy I bought it from in 84' said it had a 3.73 and the rear cover looked like it had never been removed.
I could see it MAYBEE being a 3.64 but no taller than that.
Any info would be greatly appreciated.

You have or had a 3.23 ratio.

The only (Performance) axle ratio offered in a 73 GS was 3.42. It was listed as the G2 option on the Wholesale order form. Other than that, you had to accept a numerically lowered number (or higher geared rearend). I will look in the Chassis manual and can list the available gear ratios...

Hey Pat that would be great.
I'm going to get to the bottom of this by pulling my cover and counting the gears, I will let you guys know what I find.
Hey Pat, where all of the 73' stage 1's built in the Flint plant? And do you have any idea when the first one was built?
Thanks for all of the info. :)

    Neil,
That is the ONLY way to know exactly what you have.I do not listen,or believe the tales of turning the driveshaft and count the wheels revolutions as I have see it off waaayyy more times than on. The Stage 1's were not exclusive to Flint. I have VIN'sof a few that were produced in the G plant..I have Sloan documentation of at least a 4 speed as well as a column shift car from that plant right off hand..

    Hey thanks Pat.
How would one go about acquiring 'Sloan documentation' is it very expensive?
My V-code was made in Flint January 73'.(A/C, auto, column shift, bench seat, midnight blue-black interior)
Is it possible that a lower gear than 3.42 could have been 'special ordered' being that it would still have been 72' when said order may have taken place?
