Have the aluminum fly wheel for the 4 speed and 427 clutch pack. Want to put in the skyhawk , have limited room should be able to fit motor in using a short water pump of early 430s, and fanning out front. What I am rooky at is manuals. I usually have had 400s autos, and hook up at motor is easy. Please run through a dummys explanation of motor to flywheel/clutch/ tranny. Also was given the 350 chev flywheel but told to shim starter then. Only warning was given the aluminum fly wheel will not slow as good , due to light weight, will this be a problem? Drive shaft , will I need to beef a bigger one for the torque of the 455, and will the small saginaw hold a 455 torque? should i keep the original clutch pack or use the heavy duty 427 truck pack? Will I need wheely bars? craig

the saginaw 4spds were designed for engines with less than 300 hp. i know for a fact that if in 1970 u ordered a new chevelle, 350v8 300hp, 4spd, u had to order a muncie 4spd. if u selected the 350v8 with 2bbl carb or a smaller engine, + 4spd, u got a saginaw as standard equipment.
the 455 will destroy the tranny.

    What he said.....
If you're going to invest the time and effort, use a Muncie. Dan
