Hello all, kind of new here, registered awhile back but I don't recall if I ever posted anything. I just pulled my '76 Skylark out of the bushes at the end of the driveway where my dad parked it 5 years ago. It's a pretty beat up car, but that 350 runs smooth and almost perfect. I'm planning to get it together as a winter/backup car, I think it's too fargone for a restoration (was in an accident, has some pretty bad body damage, minor chassis damage :( ).

Anyway, it has two issues with the transmission, one is the shift linkage is loose or something, when in reverse the indicator is on neutral, when in drive the indicator is on D2, ect. The shift lever will not quite lock in place because of this. I guess the linkage is loose, or something may have bent? The next problem is that a cooler line for the tranny busted and dumped all the fluid all over in front of the right spring, it's running down the tie rod and everything. the leak seems to be near where the neg battery cable runs past the cooler lines. I haven't crawled under to look yet, are the cooler lines hard lines the entire way, or are there rubber lines there that account for the line suddenly bursting? Can I patch it with rubber transmission hose? Anything I should look for as far as potential future leaks and the linkage issue? Also there is a thunk when the car is put in gear, I think this is a u-joint, but could it be something in the trans? I'm assuming this is a TH350, am I right?

Thanks, I can't wait to have this thing driveable again

Ok, never mind the leak, one of the cooler lines rusted through and burst, I bent up new ones, now I just have to shorten the ends and put them on. Still haven't looked at the linkage, any ideas?
