Can I plumb in a line lock to function as my parking brake? I've now got rear discs and no p-brake in my AT-equipped '71 Riv. I'm switching to a MT and would like a p-brake, if possible. I don't have and will not use the Cadillac-type rear calipers with integral, mechanical p-brake.

Does line lock only apply while you manually hold the switch/button depressed? Or, do you press to engage pressure lock and then press again to release? Can line lock be plumbed into rear brake line, or are ports on solenoid valve too small (restrictive) and only meant for use with front brake lines?

The types of hydraulic solenoids used as line locks can't handle the heat from continuous use. Using a "normally closed" solenoid is no good either, since an electrical failure would effectively stop that hydraulic circuit from functioning, i.e. no brakes. No good either way you look at it.

I just remembered...there is another type of valve out there, haven't seen it in years though...you push the brake pedal down firmly, press a momentary switch down, release the switch then release the pedal...and the pressure remains locked in the line with no further energization of the solenoid.

To disengage, you have to push the pedal even harder to unlock the valve, then all is as usual. If you can find a valve that operates this way you might be in luck!

Sorry, you. You asked if I tried a driveline brake.

The line lock states tha it can't be use for more than a minute. your best bet is to just run cables. its not just a parking brake, but an emergency brake too, thats why its two seperate systems from the factory. god forbid you'll ever need it, but if you do you will be glad it works..

i dont really have any experiance with drive line brakes. i just thought it would be a good option and you could probably still use your parking brake pedal so it would look factory except for the third pedal and the stick on the floor. would you mind telling us what your going to use and how you plan to set it all up?
