I am looking to drop some weight on my Buick powered, 81 Olds Cutlass this winter. I was wondering if anyone out there makes an aluminum brake caliper and aluminum master cylinder for G bodied cars. I am looking for direct bolt on items. I do not want to get into any kind of MAJOR fabrication changes. Thanks in advance, Tony
I don't know that I've ever seen aluminum master cylinders or calipers (maybe Baer makes some o No: )--you could pick up a set of aluminum brake drums, aluminum intake manifold, fiberglass body panels (www.showcars-bodyparts.com) to shave some weight though. Is this going to be a race car primarily? It's not the best idea to run a bunch of fiberglass parts on the street.
Here are the calipers on ebay. They are made by Wilwood and are direct bolt-ins. I believe the ones for Regals are $89 a piece because of the rotor thickness. You would have to email them to be sure. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Wilw...07061QQitemZ4609929744QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWDVW
Heres some made buy Us brakes but more in the line of stock brakes. Notice they're over a pound lighter. Should be cheaper. they have a pretty good track record. http://www.stockcarproducts.com/usbrakes1.htm
If you need some aluminum rear drums I have two more sets 40 bucks un turned 60 if you want me to turn them. plus shipping.
i believe the factory regal master cylinders are aluminum, though i could be wrong. the one on my 82 regal looks to be cast aluminum. anyone know how much lighter the aluminum rear drums are as compared to a cast iron specimen?
Thanks for all of the replies everyone! :TU: I already found a master cylinder for $14.00 at the local parts store. They had one iron one and one aluminum one on the shelf so I took the aluminum one. I am going to try the wilwood front calipers. Hopefully they are not a pian in the :moonu: to install. I wish I could use the aluminum rear drums, but I put a ford 9inch under my car. ou: Thanks again, Tony :3gears:
That's the both of them together 8 pounds. Combined with a light weight spool and light rims and tires. Just what we need.
No problem Tony, When you get those willows on your car can you post some picture very interested in how they look. On these cars also if you can please weight both the stock ones an the willows. for a comparison. Thanks .
Are you looking at just the brakes or do you want to go for overall weight savings? AL bumper brakets are about the easiest weight swap. A simple rear battery box is next on the list.
