Updates. Here are a few pics of the frame after priming and painting. I used PPG DP90 2-part epoxy primer (black) and PPG DDL9423 Black Lacquer paint for the final coats (3 each). I'll use the same paint on the inner fenders, firewall, etc. It has a great low sheen finish and seems very hard (this was per recommendation of Joe at JC Autobody)- he's doing the body work and paint for me. For painting it in the driveway, I think it came out pretty good.

I just saw your post and I am glad to be past that now and moving into paint and assembly. Your car is moving along well I don't see much rust that should speed things up. Good luck with the color choice. I went back and forth between Black and Red for mine and was unsure till I left the paint store. :Do No: Tony

    Randy,
Nice work, :beers2: Nice shop too by the way. I like your ingenuity. Seeing progress pics helps give others like me incentive.
I'll be doing the same thing shortly and might steal your idea for building the body supports.
    Thanks for posting

Joe at JC Autobody is doing the bodywork for me and he's had real good luck with the epoxy PPG primer and PPG paint- so I went with his suggestion. The color is great- very close to original and finish is durable.
Here's some recent pics of the progress. I'm also in the middle of rebuilding the original engine with Gary Paine as my expert builder/advisor/coach, etc. We have the all the machine work finished and have installed the crank. The front cover has the oil pump installed (and packed with Vaseline) and is ready to bolt on. Pistons are assembled with connecing rods and rings. Cam and pistons install are next. It's a stock rebuild.

Thanks Kevin- I hope to have the replacement quarters and fenders to Joe in early Jan so he can get started on my body. The engine is coming along- had a glitch with the cam bearings, but as usual, Gary solved the problem. Onward and upward.

Got a good guy in your corner there..Looking good..Keep the updates coming. I wish I would have had more time to mess with The Maggot, but the new garage consumed most of my time..A small price to pay though...

Not by Bowling Green. Hopefully, by the end of summer or early Fall.
When it 90% done there's still 90% to go.
Yes, I'm really lucky to have such expertise to tap into here in the Cleveland area. I'll keep the pictures coming.

Well, the engine build is complete, thanks to Gary Paine's expert assistance. It was great fun- my first BBB build- and I learned so much from the Ohio BBB guru. It was basically a stock rebuild of the orig # matching 400. I had all the standard machine work done- everything was gone thru- block mag'd. New pistons, rings, valve springs, TA Stage 1 cam, valve seats, seals, lifters. Oil passages enlarged to 5/8". Crank was good- only needed polishing. Line honed and line bored block. External crank assy balanced. All new bearings- rods were good, as were the valves. Complete valve job on heads. TA Stage 1 fuel pump. The carb is the numbers matching Quadrajet, which was totally remanufactured. We also rebuilt the numbers matching distributor- stock points, etc. After assembly (where I only broke 1 ring!) we mounted on Gary's engine test cell. There was just one small problem after filling the radiator- there was water seeping out of front cover seal. We had to drain the water/oil and pull the front cover. Turns out there was a small piece of the cover seal surface missing- I guess from corrosion- we resealed it and assembled it- again. No more leaks. It fired up first time and sounded beautiful. We broke in the cam and adjusted the timing/carb. Had to turn down oil pressure just a little- the TA adjustable oil pressure fitting is great. It was so cool to see and hear the engine run after actually assembling it myself- with lots of help from the master.
I'm now assembling the chassis front end- new brakes, suspension parts and steering components. The rear end is complete and ready to install- it's an 8.5, 10 bolt, 3.42 Posi that was rebuilt by Monzaz here in Richfield, OH. New shocks, springs and all new bushings- boy was that a job! It did it though- just a lot of time and cussing.
I'll post pics of the suspension as it goes together.
Thanks for following along with my build.

Yeah, it's like being in a Buick BBB museum- it's the greatest. Except that he allows his son-in-law to keep his Chevelle in there with all the Buicks. It's just not right.:pp

Nice work, I like the jig that you created out of wood for the body lift. Looks like it went pretty easy.

Great news on the engine. :TU: Congratulations! What a relief to know thats OK huh?
I'm kinda right behind you. I'm assembling my engine in between rebuilding the suspension and back together. If it would ever quit snowing here I might have time to work on it.

    Keep the progress updates coming!

Jason- my Dad's very first Riv (he owned 4 over the years) was a '66. It was light green metalic- not sure of actual paint code. I learned to drive in it and got my license in it in 1966. It was a great car- I loved the drum speedo.
What kind of car are you working on?
