Did some runs with my tazzo this morning, I can't get any better than 2.60 60 foot times on street tires. They are 235/60R15 Uniroyal rallye GTS tires on stock 15" rally wheels.

    Wider tires??

No hop, no problems other than traction...anywhere in first gear is useless no matter how easy you add throttle...I need to drop my 60 foot times so anyone have any tire suggestions?? I have heard the BF and Nitto drag radials need to be warmed up before launching which sounds like a pain so what are the alternatives??

Tim, I am certain you can reduce your 60' with your existing components. Tell us your starting line technique and how the car reacts to power. Was anyone else able to hook with a similar set-up. Do you bog down, cut out or just spin too easily?

Well first I was on the street, so there wasn't anyone else to compare to. Car weighs about 4000 pounds with me in it (full load GS), turbo 400, stock converter, 3.42 posi. Heavy swaybars all around, no susp mods. Using a tazzo computer for times. Engine made 500+ ft/lbs from 2500rpm to 5000pm on engine dyno, 422Hp at 4986 rpm. Have not tried chassis dyno yet. Also, it was fairly chilly out, about 47-48 degrees so could be the roads were just cold too. car is smooth, no bogs, no back peddling, just smooth spin.

I tried just nailing the gas (for a laugh) which of course is totally useless...then I tried just letting it idle out and slowly feeding in the power...I tried that at different points but no matter what you do by half throttle the tires are starting to haze and pretty soon it just spins, and when second hits it just keeps on spinning for a while...I mean it moves out but the 60 foot times tell its wasting time.

The tires are about 4 years old, perhaps they are getting hard. Had 29psi in them, might try lower and higher next time, lots of the newer tires grip better when high pressure. one thing I noticed is that the car does not lift at all...it drives out flat but that may be due to the spinning....was thinking of maybe trying the rear diff arm that lift the upper arm, maybe that would help. Also, might get some wider rims and run something sticky just to see what happens.

    Certainly open to any suggestions.

Oh, you were running on the street :TU: Try launching from a concrete bridge.

I have a AP-22 performance meter and have downloaded the data from both street and strip runs and compared the two. Using my street and strip comparisons as a conversion factor, your 2.6 on the street equates to 2.22 at the strip. This is very much inline with what you could expect with no suspension tuning and hard street tires. Other interesting data shows that the maximum G force I typically get on the street is .55 to .59 and at drag strip (Fayetteville) I get from .75 to .82. I run standard T/A 255/60R-15's and they are 3 years old. My typical 60' is 2.07, I have a TCI converter (~2700 advertized stall) and 3.42 posi.

I'm sure you know this but more power does not mean lower 60' times. This can be quite frustration, I went from 14.8's to 14.2's but my 60' increased!

Thanks for the info....still, I think a guy should be able to get a lower 60 foot on the street...was thinking maybe a set of 555R's, love that tread pattern but then what does a guy run on the front?? Perhaps even just wider tires overall, is the radial TA any better then it used to be?? Seems to me they used to be fairly slick, but that was years ago. of course, the great thing about them is RWL and any size you want...probably stay with 235/60R15 on the front and go with 275/50R15 on the back, be about the same diameter but have some extra tread...

I have a friend with a 99TA six speed, if I could get my 60 foot times to the 2.20 mark (which he can do on the street), then I'd have him...LOL

Any experience with any of the traction systems for our a-bodies???

Tim, I know where your coming from. My freind has a `96 (last year?) twin turbo 300Z, he can get me when he has a good launch but I pull ahead before the 1-2 shift...only to have him go back around me at ~70. I'm thinking the BB will give me enough on the top end to spank that Z in the 1/4  . The newer tires are pretty soft, he has GSC's. Using my G meter he can get .7 G on the street thats almost what I get on the strip!

I'm thinking of going with the BFG Drag Radials 275/60's on the rear and BFG T/A's 235/60's no the front. I do like the Nitto's but they don't currently offer a good match-up for the front for our cars. Keep in mind the soft tires in the rear should be in the 26-28 psi range for the street much more and they will wear the middle in short (shorter) order.

Well the plan right now is to get a set of 235/60R15 BF drag radials, I can put them on some extra 15's I have here, and just swap them out for playing around. Its probably also the least expensive route as opposed to changing all the tires or getting some 15x10 rims made for the 275's....also, I think I'm going to try the edelbrock traction bars, these are the ones that move the upper arm up and hook onto the front of the diff. They are only 119.00 at Summit, and you won't be able to see them from behind the car....

I plan on trying them sperately and seeing what kind of improvement each makes.

Basically, if I could get to a 2.0 60 foot time, I would be at 14 flat or a little less which isn't bad for our 3500 feet alttude and usual 5000 feet density altitude with a 4000 pound car. The great thing about 60 foot times is that you don't have to speed although the cops might look at you funny !!!LOL

The problem with racing turbo and supercharged cars is that they always make their sea level rated horsepower, we get killed because we depend on the natural air density...which on a hot day up here is really bad air....

Now that is a Lot of Laughs. Here in Jersey that ticket is called...

    'Unnecessary Display of Horsepower'

They will always find a way to fine you here

I'd take that to court because it is incorrect. It is an "Unnecessary display of Torque"!!!

What I usually do it get up at 430 or 5am and go out to my favourite deserted road, good cool air and no traffic. If I see lights anywhere I just keep on driving.

Local speed shop has those bars in stock so here we go.....:beer
