Leo Baekeland - Plastic inventor

    There is a new documentary about this dude, who invented Bakelite, the world's first plastic, in 1907.
    It is called 'All things Bakelite: The age of plastic'

    I don't know if it yet available.
    I was surprised to learn that people used to try to coat wire with shellac.

    Obviously plastic has infinite uses now.

    Thought you folks might be interested.

    Inside older electric motors, generators, transformers, etc - the windings are shellac/varnish coated copper wires. Newer devices use a polymer coating.

    Oh yes! My kind of TV.

    I miss the old History Channel when they had Wings (I think that's what is was called) and Automobile. Pretty much anything that's not reality driven

    Much to my surprise, bakelite is still in use today!
