I received the legendary cover installed from my local upholstery shop. I'm a little disappointed with the puckering on the side. Piping seemed very straight on original. My VERY experienced upholstery man owns his business for over 50yrs and did it personally. He said "it's just the way they made it. Not like they used to be". Anybody else have this issue?
Maybe I'm overreacting. My original seat wasn't perfectly straight. Picture of original attached. Installer said it may improve over the summer heat.
No. Mine were done by a girl 22 yrs ago. Found the receipt, $248. back in 2001. Looks understretched or overstretched to me. Could be sewn off but they've been making these covers forever.
I believe the cover is not sowed correctly. You can see the horizontal panel is shorter. I'll call legendary. Thanks everyone.
Looks like it is poorly sewn. Fortunately it looks like it is bulges outward and is "material safe" if someone was to uninstall it and re-sew a straighter edge to it. Just a thought.
He should have noticed the flaws in sewing and aborted the install. Don't think you could stretch them that much out of wack.
It does look crooked. Did you count the number of holes to the bead on the wide vs narrow sections (yes, I'm serious!) It's possible that bead/piping is skewed by the positioning of the 'flap' on the backside. I don't know the upholsterer's terminology, but when the two panels are sewn together, there is a flap of material maybe 1/2" wide on the backside. If that flap is tucked towards the side of the seat at the top, but tucked the other way towards the middle of the seat/seating area, it's gonna skew the bead/piping and make it look crooked. To be sure, count the number of perforations to determine if it is sewn crooked. I've bought a few pieces from Legendary over the years that were improperly made. Sad, since they're considered the best available.
It sort of looks overstuffed. You can see where the vertical straps at the top are showing on the edges where they should not. When you look at Mart's which look fantastic, the sides are smooth. Looks like a bad install. Hard to say if the covers are bad too.
There isn’t any extra stuffing, new padding, or foam on mine. Old covers came off, new covers went on. Hog ringed and that's it
Ron at legendary says send them back and they will resew them in a couple days and send back. My upholsterer says that the cuts for the seat back release and headrests might not line up perfectly after a resew. Legendary says they won't send out a new set for replacement because mine have been cut into and they can't resell them! And that my installer should have noticed the problem before he cut into them. Ugh
I reused my covers with new foam and you will have difficulty lining up the holes, but it can be done.
I really don't think it's unreasonable to insist on new covers and return mine. They shouldn't be reselling resewn seats in my opinion anyway. I called again and told them I would really prefer new covers. Ron said he would talk to his boss.....cautiously optimistic
Yep, they need better quality control. They should be glad you pointed out & found their defect so they can remedy their process. Your covers should have never made it into a box to be shipped out.
They should give you new ones, and let you keep the bad covers so you can sew up a nice cool garage seat/chair with 71 GS seat material & pattern!
