Yes---they are ACC carpets...if you ordered the manual floor shift carpet you may want to change your order to an automatic carpet set as the manual floor shift carpets fit terrible over the trans tunnel and require some mods to make them look "right".

Never heard of ACC. Do they have a better product than Year One's carpet? If so, whats their website or phone number?

ACC supplies virtually EVERY VENDOR (Year One, Legendary, etc) with their carpet sets. In fact, they may be the SOLE MANUFACTURER of A body carpet sets here. So...if you order from Year One you will get ACC carpets (Auto Custom Carpets), order from Legendary....yep, ACC carpet, etc, etc. Year One buys wholesale from ACC and sells it retail. You can go direct to ACC I think but I'm pretty sure you won't find their prices very competitive...they prefer that purchases be made from their customers like Year One, etc.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, looks like i got lucky twice.....i did order one for a 4 speed but i have a huge hump which was reworked for the richmond 5 speed and was concerned i wouldn't have enough carpet to cover the hump. So i should be in good shape:TU:

heres a link that put me onto the ACC carpet and is an excellent thread for installing the carpet as well.

    Patton,

I wish I heard this before I attempted to install my carpet and cut a hole for the shifter handle and now it's total garbage. :af: I ordered it through Legendary which fits four speed cars and what a mess! There is not enough padding in the world to get this right. It's almost impossible to screw the shifter boot in place if it were to get padded for proper fit and finish. I don't think the optional console would cover this either.. I thought about ordering a replacement for an automatic and you answered my question. More :dollar:

    Thanks!

Mike--See the thread that RaceNu linked to above:

    http://www.v8buick.com/showthread.php?t=165629&highlight=carpet+supplier

The 4 spd carpet set IS WORKABLE but requires a little patience. I got one to work pretty well in a '70 Olds 4 spd car as discussed in that thread BUT I did have to slice it from the shifter opening forward. It's an alternative to buying another carpet set (if they aren't giving you an exchange).

Folks---HERE'S THE DEAL--I spoke with ACC TWICE in the last couple weeks on this problem. Spent about 1 hour total on the phone with them and their attitude seems to be:

AS LONG AS WE DON'T HEAR ANY COMPLAINTS FROM OUR VENDORS (IE LEGENDARY, YEAR ONE, ETC.) THEN WE PROBABLY WON'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.

They either don't want to go to any expense to change anything or they thought I was some schmuck that knew nothing about these cars and carpets that was calling up and whining. Their CUSTOMERS are the VENDORS so THAT IS WHO CARRIES THE WEIGHT WITH THEM.

I suggested getting a real A-body floorpan to them with a selection of metal shifter "humps" to attach and check for fitment. The idea "didn't seem to take" as they kept saying they had a pattern/die that they thought was fine.

So-complaining direct to them ain't gonna work IMO....I tried and you can only throw rocks at someone for so long trying to get their attention...apparently they don't comprehend the reason the rocks are flying in their direction. More likely, they know they have the carpet market locked up all to themselves and really don't care.

START COMPLAINING TO THE VENDORS!!!!!!---I'M SERIOUS!!!!--If you got a carpet set pick up the phone and spend 5 or 10 minutes and let them HEAR FROM YOU.

MAYBE, JUST MAYBE--it will work---but NOTHING WILL HAPPEN if we don't start letting THE VENDORS know this carpet fits like CRAP!

Mike--I would seriously push for a refund OR AN EVEN EXCHANGE due to the fact THAT THIS STUFF JUST DOESN'T FIT AT ALL for its intended use (4 spd floor shift). Plain and simple...ACC is marketing TWO SETS OF CARPET and when you order one of those sets, IT DOESN'T FIT. That is not your fault...it is ACC's FAULT...so they (via their vendor) NEED TO MAKE IT RIGHT.

Thanks for your concern. Tell the vendors where this thread is and they can read about the real life examples of people actually trying to install this stuff.

It wasn't such a big deal on the Olds as it was a console car and all but a couple inches of the slice was hidden (I "hid" the rest). On a non-console floor shift that is not possible.

Thanks---I have to talk with Legendary tomorrow on another item so I am also going to mention the carpet fitment issues.

I think you should talk with Eric Lail (sp?)...he's the guy that posts their specials on this board and others like Realoldspower.com.

Be nice, tell them FACTS and be firm.

I do not care for ACC carpet , never have . Its either to short , not wide enough , hump is to large or I have had them install the dimmer switch ring in the WRONG place . I use Trim Parts carpet . I am a dealer for Legendary and have complained about ACC carpet to them.

Stitcher---ACC told me they supply Trim Parts with some or all of their carpets. I read of a recent purchase of carpet from Trim Parts and it came in an ACC box.

I guess it's time to call Trim Parts and find out which carpets they really make and find out what the deal is.

Thank you for letting them know of these problems. I've made this same suggestion over on the big Chevelle site....which MAY help as there are a multiple of Chevy buyers for every Buick or Olds buyer out there.

SPECIFIC QUESTION: Have you ever installed carpet from Trim Parts that was ordered as a "Manual Floor Shift Carpet Set" as opposed to ordering Auto Trans carpets that might fit tighter on a floor shift car??

    Thanks

    UPDATE;

I spoke with Mike Saless at Legendary today and went into detail about the carpet problem. He seemed very interested and appeared to be willing to help and I forwarded this post along with pictures of my own carpet issues. If any of you would like to reiterate your concerns, I would suggest calling Mike at 800-363-8804 X209. His e-mail address is msaless@legendaryautointeriors.com. Send pictures and if any of you have suggestions that would help this cause, let him know, I'm sure he would be interested in hearing it.

I had not heard anything about ACC buying Trim Parts . I just received a carpet for a 04 Dodge truck and it came in a Trim Parts box . ........From my understanding , Trim Parts had bought CROWN 's molds when Crown went under some years back and built the carpet bussiness off of that . I have installed the 4-speed carpet in a 71 Chevelle and I did not really car for the fit around the hump but with some heating and steaming it did fit a bit better .

Legendary "Gets it" when it comes to customer service. Their helpful attitude when I was restoring my '65 Skylark 9 years ago and their standing behind what they sell, even years later, has made me a customer for life.

I recently installed new carpet from ACC in my 4 speed GSX. I ordered the AUTOMATIC carpet as suggested by Duane and Jim Lore. This would give you the option to work the area for the shifter cutout without it being molded too large for a typical (Chevelle) 4 speed hump.

Initially I was VERY disappointed in the fit. I also contacted ACC directly and Year One ( bought through them). I also emailed photos and explained the situation. No official response or follow up from them (or myself). I was wanting to get things done for an event and I called Duane directly to discuss.

His suggestion worked VERY well although I would not have believed it until I lived through it myself. Add an extra layer of the JUTE padding (re-using it from the previous carpet set) to build up the foundation for the new install.

It ended up working VERY well along with some additional creating fitment and alignment. A link to the thread on my experience is posted above as reference. I posted a few pictures in that thread as well.

Contact me directly if I can be of any assistance. Ultimately I think you already have the best carpet set you're going to find and you simply (with a bunch of work) will have to make it fit for you.

I know it can work out well for you but it may not seem like it at the moment.

    FWIW.....

    Rob,

Thanks for the feedback. I wish that I ordered the automatic carpet (first)but I didn't know the difference and found out too late and I'm currently stuck with the 4 speed carpet. Hopefully Legendary and or ACC will do the right thing and replace my carpet or refund my $$. With the 4 speed carpet I could stuff 6" of padding and add 8" screws to hold the shifter boot down and I'm not going this route. I don't have the optional console as my car is a bench seat with the 4 speed shifter and have no way of hiding the excess carpet.

    Thanks again. Mike
