Howdy, Has anyone here messed around with making custom LED taillights? I'd like to find a source so I can build my own so I can reuse the original housings but get a brighter, lower amp draw, and faster responding tail lamps and if I like them well enough I might do the front turn signals. Thanks,
No need to make your own. Go here instead http://www.ledtronics.com/datasheets/auto_index/auto_index.htm
I think you misunderstood me, I don't want LED bulbs I want to make the strips or blocks and use the stock lens but have an LED array behind them. I'll look through the site for things like that but it seems to be mostly just LED bulb replacements.
I've given some serious thought into doing this on my 65. I'd need another full taillight set to experiment with, so it's kind of on the back burner for now. My idea involves using some existing clear LED lights available at truck stops, and fitting them into the taillight housings. I just don't want to risk my only current set to see if it's feasible.
I am very interested in doing same to rear lights and front turn/parking lamps. On the turn signals in the rear some sequential ones have always caught my attention. Tom I'm lucky and have a spare set to work with but just can't find the time and knowledge to try them yet.
If you were thinking of making an array of led's on a pc board, take a look at this. A guy made a set for his electric car conversion. http://www.metricmind.com/ac_honda/lighting.htm Here's the main part of the site. Its an interesting read. http://www.metricmind.com/ac_honda/main2.htm
Sequential LED's Now you're talking. :TU: :TU: That would be so cool. That idea has crossed my mind as well. The sequencer is available from someone, just can't remember who at this time. Oh well, when the money tree starts sprouting this spring, maybe I'll persue this further.
I've seen an info sheet and kit matls available on ebay for seq tail lights. I've also been told on another board that led lights behind the car's standard lenses aren't worth the effort...you need clearer lenses that aren't as color dense.
This one is a rectangular panel: http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/CLD248/ Might need 4-6 of these and make a "strip"
not bad for the price. I'll have to check for the brightness and I'd probably need about 20 of those cards to do a full taillight treatment.
Try here I am not sure if this is what your looking for? www.lambertenterprises.com or www.ledtaillights.com led.info@lambertenterprises.com I hope this helps, Don :TU:
