Sorry for my incompetency, I went to start my good ol 72 Skylark last night and could not get it started. After I finally gave up and started back to the house i noticed a strong odor of gasoline. I looked under the hood and noticed gas leaking from the side of the carburetor. Now for my question , I figured i would by a new carburetor from the auto store, is there a certain brand or type I should buy? And will i have to do any tuning after I install the carburetor? Thanks for any help!
Don't make the mistake of buying a new carburetor. Find a shop that will rebuild your existing carb if you don't want to do it yourself. Devon
How do you know a new carburetor will fix it? You could of just flooded it. Granted, it does sound like you may have some excessive clearance in the throttle shafts, but I would check that before just guessing a new carb will solve your problems. If it is in fact the carb, why not just get the factory carb rebuilt? We have a few good carb rebuilders right here on the board that would do an excellent job for you. A new, aftermarket carb is not simply going to bolt on either. So take that into consideration. You'll likely need an adapter of some sort to mount it to your intake (I assume its a stock cast iron). You'll also need to fabricate a new fuel line. Also dont forget the new air cleaner and spacer as the stock pices arent going to fit
