I was driving my 75 buick lesabre to the car wash to clean off the engine and i noticed it was leaking anti freeze under the engine by the tranny. However it wasnt overheating and it no white smoke coming out the exhaust or anti freeze in the oil. I checked heater core from inside engine seen no leaks. And when i went under car again seems to be anti freeze on the flywheel cover.. Wh ere could it be coming from or could it be the heating core? Engine a 350 20200402_144153.jpg 20200402_144201.jpg 20200402_144146.jpg

Does the air conditioner and heater share a box or housing? And the housing - doesn't it have an opening on bottom.

I hope it not a cracked block. But if it was a cracked block wouldnt it overheat or have white smoke coming out tailpipe? I drove the car for over 45 minutes..it didnt overheat at all....

Im not sure if it shares same housing..i just deleted the ac compressor and need finish cleaning up the area. Im have to drive it on ramps to find the leak because i thought it was the radiator but after seeing it leaking with car running thats the area in the picture it coming from. I dont see no leak inside the engine compartment with car running and with it off

Carefully look at the heater hoses where they attach to the heater core. They can leak there and run down to drip in that area.

Leaking freeze plug? I’m not familiar with the anatomy of SBB’s, but I think it’s worth considering

Ok where would the freeze plug be. And im going bypass the heater core to see if that works..I also have no smoke coming from the engine compartment so that should be a good sign that the block is not cracked? And my radiator still is 2/3 full of anti freeze

I believe they’re at the back of the block (again, I’m no expert on SBB anatomy). Y0u’d have to remove the transmission and flexplate to access them. If the antifreeze is pooling at the back of the engine, and coming out the converter cover at the bottom, that’d be where I would suspect the problem lies.

    No. dont pull trans yet.....

Pull the inspection plate only.. pressurize the coolant system. A bore scope camera would be nice to have also. but not needed.. You'll find the leak.

Are there freeze plugs at the back of the block? I know there is a plug at the cam tunnel. Maybe a small one at the back of the head. Don't remember any others. Anybody got a picture of the back of a 350 block?

Yep, theres two core plugs per head, one on each end.

No freeze plugs in the bell housing area (Back) of the block. Just oil plugs..

It's possible for the intake to leak at the corners. You should be able to see that though.

On my old 68 rag I cut the box holding air cond off but had to reinstall those reostats on fiberglass. Box the heater wouldn't come on. Once the air unit comes out I believe the core is upright+ should be in view. I just sectioned the box and made a blank.

Took a while to mention the freeze plugs. Each head has 2 freeze plugs, one on each end. Dorman # 555-020

with some creativity you can replace them with the engine in the car, but I had to haul mine half out to get a decent whack at the back driver's one on mine that leaked.

We can guess all we want but this one can't be cured through the magic 8 ball. That's a substantial leak, it should be easy to find. You'll have to paw around until you find the source.
