Just scored this 60K mile, 99 Navigator for $5K from the Paducah Kentucky Police Department of all places. It is 4x4 with tow package, just in showroom condition and everything works like new, even the air suspension. They were the second owners in 2014 but don't know how they ended up with it. Evidently it was used undercover because they registered it under a false VIN and I had a ton of paperwork from them to prove the real VIN. The lady at the Florida DMV did not want to title/register it in Florida and went through the paperwork 3X even though her supervisor signed off on all the paperwork previously saying this is normal with these vehicles. She even went out, climbed on my trailer again and re-verified the VIN in the dash. I bought it because it is an early 99 so it comes with the 2 valve PI engine. The 98's had the non-PI and the late 99's had the 4 valve. But I have a complete Lightning Blower setup to bolt to it and it will only bolt to a 2 valve PI head. Michelin tires however are from 2005. Gonna be a cool tow vehicle.
Nice Nav, you're going to love it. Only weak spot is the spark plug issue in the 2v heads. There is very little thread area for the plug to screw in to, so eventually the threads let go and a Motorcraft rocket shoots towards the hood. I drove home from Columbus OH to Philly like that, with no ill effects, only a lot of people staring because it sounds like a helicopter is 10ft above your car. I wish I'd ordered a Nav instead of an Expedition in '99 but I can't complain. Got nearly 280,000 reliable miles before I sold it. Good luck!
Be careful on the wiring harness where it leads down by the passenger side valve cover! The wires got pinched, and killed the transmission on one that I know of. Guess what it takes to pull THAT monster of an engine. HINT: lift the BODY off the frame!!!
It’s a shame Ford put so much expensive technology in those; I see them all the time in Atlanta with the ass, nose or whole body on the suspension stops, peeling paint, chugging from failed coils and windows down because the A/C quit. They’re either like that with two or three 20” rims and a steelie spare, or three steelies and a factory wheel. They’ve become ‘painter’s cars’ or hoodmobiles. One in nice shape like yours is rare! Patrick
Thats exactly what I think when I see them.. dont forget they snap, crackle and pop because the exhaust manifolds are rotted out. They're a status symbol in the ghetto for sure. I remember working on them when I turned wrenches in college. Not a cheap rig to maintain..
My son Lives in Evansville IN. I was bringing the Mustang to him and found it in a local ad. Billy from "BillysAutoSales" held it a week for me till we left Evansville with no deposit even though he had three others wanting it. Very nice guy. He brokered the deal and got all the paperwork necessary and there was a ton of paperwork. Mikey
