It's doubtful if that is legit.
What happened when you clicked on that link? :Do No:
All I got was the "Page not Found" message. :puzzled:

These are scams ..... the links say ebay...but if you check the properties or look at address when you move your mouse over the link...it goes to some other IP address.....

I have been getting those for months now...... eBay knows about them already, and I don't think they are doing anything about it because it is coming from outside the U.S.

  8. Well, instead of just clicking on the link in the email, I instead loaded www.ebay.com , after it loaded, I then added in the rest of the address from the email. That gave me the page not found message also. I doubt it is really from ebay, but have forwarded it to spoof@ebay.com to see what they say about it. This is the first time I have received this particular variation of the scam emails.

ebay will never ask for your password ! if its one of those things where they ask for your password, then its a scam. i have gotten some of those things, they can look pretty real but ebay says they will never ask for any of your info if i remember correctly. the guys who get passwords with this scam are the ones you see selling a "nearly new " ATV or bike with buy it now for 1/2 what they sell for new, and "money transfer only" to somewhere in europe, fast, free shipping with pics that look like they came right from the manufacturers website. ( they did ) they hack these ebay accounts from mostly newbie sellers who reply to these scams, then they offer deals that are too good to be true. buyers are being scammed for big $$$ the discussion board for ebaymotors always has someone complaining they got took in a deal like that.

I've received many of those and they're all fraud. Ebay will never ask for any personal info. I've reported them to spoof@ebay and they usually respond in a day or 2 that it is fraudulent.

Got them for almost a year. After reporting it to ebay, they told me they never include a link in an email that will lead you to a billing update page. Watch for the same thing saying PayPal needs updates too. Some say TKO on the subject. Apparantely, they can't stop this since I and many others have been reporting this for many months.

  13. Really? Do you send them to spoof@ebay.com ? I sent it there last night, and got a reply within a few hours, confirming of course that it did not come from ebay.

If you really have doubts about this kind of email, here's what I do. I go onto ebay (without clicking the email links) and go to my account and make sure that my information is correct. If there's really a problem somewhere I believe ebay just tells you to log in (again without links) and change the information.
I've gotten this type of email several times and I just delete it or send it to spoof.

There's not a heck of a lot ebay can do about the spoofing, other than trying to keep the public informed.

When was the last time you saw on the news of an ebay scammer getting prosecuted? Maybe there have been some, but I have never seen one.

Their money is best spent just trying to keep us aware of the scammers tactics.

I have heard people trying to contact ebay with complaints etc. If you thought credit card companies were tough to deal with, try getting in touch with a live employee of ebay. :error:

I heard on the news the other day that ebay "may" start providing contact info which leads to a human being because of so many complaints.

It's a scam - just report it to spoof@ebay.com, and carry on as usual. Never reply with any info they request and don't even bother to open the link.
You can also return a nasty reply instructing them where they can file their request ! They are persistent though-
You can also 'block sender' to permanently block their current sending location.
The same applys to PayPal update requests: spoof@paypal.com

A little off subject, but I work at a bank sending out emails to individuals- and this scam happens about every two weeks. We're a big institution, but I'd imagine ebay and many other big companies have this scam come out often. The safest thing to do is to go TO the webpage directly- never follow the link out of the e-mail.
