In order to fiinish up a concours resto I need a late 69 /early 70 Delco Remy voltage regulator. These are date coded on the bottom of the left side of the lower mounting foot just beside the mounting screw hole. The date codes I need read: 9M or 9L This of course means November and December 1969 respectively. I would like to buy one with either of these date codes outright or I have other date coded regulators to trade.
Jim i may have others but as of right now this is the only one i can find. its coded 9 D. the D is very light and you may be able to restamp it if need be.
Doug Many thanks for your quick response. I have to hold out a bit for one date coded a little closer but that is the correct one. Let me see how this goes.
I have one stamped 9K. The stamping is very clear & visable. My car was built 1st week Dec 69 in Fremont, CA
Dan If someone does not come up with an L or an M I will have to talk with you about that one. There again I suppose your post was to give some input on what time frame fits. This is for a 12B 69 car and we appreciate all input.
I just have a question on what would be considered acceptable time frame for the date stamped on a part if the car was built 2nd week of Dec 69. If the car was built 2nd week of Dec it would seem to be almost impossible to have parts also dated as built in Dec. By time the parts manufactuer builds and delivers the parts to the factory that just dosn't seem possible. Not to get off track with the thread, just curious as to what is considered "acceptable" for concourse judging in this case.
The judges will have to speak to that. However, just to give you an actual experience report I have a December 69 car with a December date coded intake manifold and engine. I have a March 70 car that came with a March dated alternator and a Feb date coded votage regulator. And the list goes on wherein the parts were close and may sometimes not so close. So I an trying to shoot for 60 days where I can.
Sounds good, thanks for the insight. I am new to the world of restoration although I have worked on cars for many years. My current & first full resto project is a 70 GS clone, so I am not after #'s matching correctness. I am just unfamilaiar with how concourse judging works. Let me know if you want the regulator and again thanks for the info. :beer
Dan, We do not look at date codes on parts when we judge the Concours classes. Jim is looking for a correctly dated part, because he, as an owner, is trying to find the best possible parts to complete a correctly date coded vehicle. This goes above and beyond what we look for as judges, and he should be commended for his efforts. The only time we look at dates is to verify early/late parts or to make sure a vehicle represented as say a GSX, was built within the correct time frame. We would also check for production plant correctness for that. Jim, The voltage regulator picture in my "Date Code Book" was a "9M", and came from Jarrod Jacobs. I think he goes by "1967bigbuick" on this board, maybe you should call him. It may have been an extra part. Duane
Did that yesterday as I spotted that code on page 30. Jarrod is looking for it. Your book is just invaluable for doing restorations to this degree. We will feature such items as the correct radiator including the infamous SW tag, alt., distributor, carb, core support, wiper, battery, voltage regulator, spark plug wires and thanks to Duane even correct dated coded water pumps. (We had old cores rebuilt specially for these cars.)
Engie Thanks for the offer. I now have both a 9L and a 9M. If one of these works I should be good to go. Ever get a clip for the GSX tach wire?
Sorry Jim, I still haven't found mine but I haven't looked everywhere yet. I guess this is going to force me to do that much needed cleaning my garage deserves.
Jarrod No sweat. I was lucky enough to find a 9L in a yard and another member found a 9M so I am good to go assuming one works.
Ok Jim, If they do not work out let me know. Also I did not get the clip for the hood tach yet I am sure I will be able to make one up. I just move the GSX under its own power for the first time in 18 Years.
