I am rodding out a '51 Buick super and want to run functional lake pipes. Are there any old timers out there that used to run lakers that can fill me in on an "old skool" way of running these pipes? Basically what I am looking for is anything that would make it more true to the period late 40's to '51. What did you do when you were a youngster? Did you run mufflers, heat shield, insulation, any information will be GREAT!!

    Thanks,

    Vino

Well, my Uncle used a well point...

True story - my uncle used a well point for a "muffler" back in the '50s.

Cut the tailpipe off in front of the muffler and clamped on about 4' of perforated well point. He said it sounded real smooth. It doesn't seem like this would be too safe with monoxide infiltrating the car. Goes to show that "anything went" back in the day!
