..was the sound it made when I tried to open door on the passangers side of my 1971 Buick GS. Something inside gave way, fell down, the door cannot be opened from the outside, pushing the knob feels soft without any resistance. I`ll open up the door panel in time, meanwhile, you guys have a hint what it might be, known problem, easy fix(I hope so). Since the problem lies inside (the door, haha) I went with the „interior city“, correct me if I`m wrong. Thanks for your input Jens
Is there tension on the push button? It may have snapped off or the contact pad it hit broke off. Take the door panel off and check it out. The only issue you may have is the window crank handle if manual. There is a clip on it that needs to pop off. There is a special tool for it but a thin screwdriver or putty knife can work too.
Power window car, might make it easier to pop the panel off? No, there is no real resistance, feels like you`re pushing a sponge with your thumb, pops back out like everthing else was ok, but doesn`t open. Jens
remove the door panel. it may be wise to remove the door panel on the other door to review the mechanisms involved.
Had a very similar thing happen to mine. The push rod mounted to the back of the thumb button is a press-in part that can work loose and drop off. The push rod is supposed to connect to a metal pad that in turn operates the door lock mechanism. You've dropped a rod!
Sounds pretty much like my problem, yes. I`ll take the panel off, maybe take a pic and be back here with either a solved case or more questions Thank to you guys
Hi, finally found my time to check that lock on my passenger side. Like suggested before, it looks like the rod connecting the pushbutton and that plate that`s opening the door worked itself loose. How can I fix it again, shall I get the door handle out to fix it or can I glue it back in (e.g. epoxy ) while letting the lock stay in place ? Any suggestions ? Jens
The correct button rod has a bend to it that faces down. Many sell the wrong button that has a straight rod. If the button is not broke just epoxy the rod back in to it. Correct button pictures below. Nelson
Hey Nelson, thanks for your reply. In that case, should I get the door handle out of the door for the correct procedure, or can this be done with the doorhandle and pushbutton still in place ? As far as I can see, the doorhandle is secured by 2 bolts, right ? Can I just release it ? Jens
"Mission accomplished".....:Brow: Got it out of the door, glued the dropped rod back in with some epoxy-fiber mix and it works pretty good. Thanks for all your help Jens
