I haven't played with any cars for about 15 years so please be patient. Shortly I will be buying a 455 with an unknown history and plan a small rebuild. Does anyone have an opion on Kenne Bell parts as compared to TA. Should I use all of 1 mnfg. or the other. Any help on cam and intake selection would be great. Thanks in advance

TA is now THE place to get stuff. They have even bought the molds/rights to KB's intake.

My name's John. I used to have a 66Riv, 72 Centurion conv., 65 Skylark, And a 59 Ivvicta Convt. All had to go when I got Married. Sure do miss those cars that you can sit on the fender without crushing it.

Hey Joe Kelsch! Do you go to Keystone to run your car at all? Not too many of us Buick guys there. If so what does your car look like? I may have seen it.

Yeah it's nice to be able to jump butt first onto the trunk lif of my car and not worry about it buckling. Same with the front fenders.

Hail still does a number on the body, though. It takes some big hail to do it.:ball:

    Hi John!

I'd highly recommend staying with one supplier. I talked to my machinist about this before I even dropped off my block a few years ago. He told me some pain in the butt stories about making tolerances right that should have been right to begin with, but a couple mils here from on manufactuere, a couple mils there from a different one...adds up. His feeling about it, and I agree, is that buying parts for a build up on an engine you've been away from for a while or are less than familiar with is bad enough of a crap shoot without taking a chance on each and every company you buy each individual part from- instead of rolling the dice each time for each part, roll it once and he'd spec the parts for me if I liked. Then I told him I was going with TA parts as far as I knew, he said, "Oh, OK, don't worry then". He seems to know his Buicks; he knew the bore and stroke off the top of his head! He'd dealt with TA before, too, and found them good to deal with, with high quality parts.

I've talked briefly with Mike over there on the phone, and he's a good guy who cares about his customers.
    :TU:

On a related note, I have heard tell that not only did TA buy the rights for the old K/B 455 intake, but they are updating it a bit and will be released...well, whenever they finish it, lol.

I can't say enough good things about them over at TA. Plus, there's the whole Stage 1 and 2 aluminum head projects...just great news for us Buick guys that there's alternative heads available now. Definitely spend some time over at their website:beer

Hey John, Don't know anyone around your area. I have a second cousin in Pottstown though.

Hey Tony, Last time I ran at keystone I had my 91 crown vic interceptor. It ran 17's in the high 80's, but it could do 130 in third gear (I have 2 witnesses). My GS won't pass tech as it has a pretty good tranny leak that I'm still trying to track down. I was intending to run my 67 4 door this year, but its not likely. I need to spend money on concrete for my pole barn. I go out there alot though to watch my buddy race. Last year he ran the 68 GS 400 convert (12.7 mostly stock 455). Its painted primer black with red and orange flames. He also raced his blue 69 sportwagon (12.5, 4500lbs). I was going to go out today, but apparently they're not open on Mother's day. That was a real bummer, then I found out the rally race wasn't happening at the North Park Pool parking lot either. No racing action for Joey :( At the pool alot of the local mustangs run and kick the civic's bum bum. Then an old cooper or that green 65 cobra show up and makes fools of everyone. The older cars average a 10 second quicker time than the others.

The car to watch for out at Keystone is a early 80's grand prix. This guy has a stock 70 455 th400 and runs 12.6 and 7s. He has less than $1500 in the whole car. Pretty admirable as far as I'm concerned. He calls it the junkyard jewel or something.

I had my '71 lark out this weekend. I was at a buddys house and we were hanging out by the cars. there was a group of 5 of us and we all sat on my trunk, since they all had new cavaliers with chincy spoilers. I didn't mind though. they wouldn't even put a beer cup on their paint, while my paint is original. oh well
