I read a thread where somebody said the KB booster plate is more effective than all the others. He said you drill a couple holes and idle pressure is boosted lilke 10lbs. Anyone have any info to share on this? It was written by a Charlie Evans. I can't find a way to contact him through a search.
    Thank you.

John, the major difference between the "booster" plates is the bypass oil circuit. The KB plate returns the bypass oil back to the suction passage requiring a simple front cover modification where the other type plate simply provides and new wear surface for the pump gears and, being cast iron, adds some structural stability to the pump casing. I personally prefer the KB design as it theoretically reduces turbulance at the pump suction keeping flow more linear, and have had excellent results. Hope this helps.

Does anyone have a picture or diagram of where to drill the hole?

Adam, I have some pictures of all the mods required along with the original instruction sheet from Jim. I'll try to locate them.

Jay, that would be great. I've been wondering about what the exact difference is for a while.

Well, I finally found the instructions and unfortunately they were faxed to me on a machine that used the old thermal paper and they have somewhat degraded over time. Will attempt to salvage and post ASAP.

Cool, or even a sketch would be OK too!

    instructions

I might have my original instructions that came with the pump some 15 years ago that my machine shop followed. It might take some digging but I think I have them.

I recall seeing a drawing somewhere that was a template for making one of those. It had dimensions, hole diameters, etc. I'll look in the abyss that is my garage and see if I can find it.

I bought a long gear hi-vol, hi-pres oil pump kit from Kenne-Bell 11 yrs ago, and it came with the booster plate. There wasn't anything in the instructions about any drilling. The booster plate is the only part of that kit still on the car. The long pump gears went in the trash when the cam bearings melted at 200 miles.

Unfortunately, I don't believe Charlie Evans frequents this board.

Jay (the Martian) - do you still make cam buttons?

Been a couple of days trying to get the booster plate info up. I've got a couple of sheets that will work -I think- along with some sketches if I can can get my scanner to work now.:af: John,I think I may have a few cam buttons already machined,I'll check. If not I can make some up if you need one.

    K-B booster plate

    Hi all,
still trying to decide whether to use the K-B booster plate I bought, or a regular steel thrust plate. Since the K-B plate dumps the by-passed oil back into the suction galley, I would think that this almost disables the by-pass circuit, allowing excess oil pressure, possibly when cold.

    Any thoughts on this?
