Just picked up a 72 GS stage 1 455 engine that has a fresh rebuild and KB 118 cam shaft.
How streetable is this cam behind a stock BB automatic with stock 12" 1800 rpm converter and a 3: 64 Posi rear axle?
I will want to run stock intake and exhaust manifolds and Qjet carb.
Is there enough vacuum to run PDB and will this be a real dog out of the hole until car gets rolling?

Any feedback with your experiences with this cam is appreciated
    Thanks Rich

Hi Rich, that is the cam I have and it is pretty good. I have AC, stock converter, and PDB and it idles pretty good. I have it at around 600 to 700 rpm and it is fine with the vacume. I can sometimes feel the brakes booster going on and off at a red light, but it is only every once and a while. It pulls pretty good from the start, but you can feel it get up on the cam.

Very Streetable... I ran a stock converter with 3.08 & 4.10 gears and the cam had no problems with either. Pulled enough vacum to run the brakes no problem... Idle was around 800....(drive and park.. mine didn't change when I put it gear).

I really liked that cam... Sounded stock untill you got on it.. then it would move.

Although I was running an SP1 intake and headers, I don't know how it'll do with stock stuff...

    Hope you like it.

i run the 113a cam, which is a couple steps up and it is very streetable. the 118 has been the most popular cam for BBB for decades.

Jamie Carnes May the Torque be with you.

I ran Poston's verson (GS 118) for a long time and loved it. Mine really liked a 2500 stall, but was very streetable. I had 3:73 gears and I ran headers as well. The car pulled like a freight train up to almost 6 grand.

You should have plenty of vacuum and be quite happy with the cam.

    You'll love the cam,have one in Sandy's "X",stock manifolds and intake,9.7 to 1 comp. Q-jet,2 1/2" exhaust,3.42 posi,3000 TCI conv,she ran a best of 12.98 at norwalk a couple weeks ago.plenty of vacuum,idles at 600 in gear.a nice lope.
Had the 118 in my 69 GS400 4 speed car too, then thought I'd change to the old jet boat cam that some of the guys with 455's were running, and ran .2 slower,so much for 1 step forward 2 steps back, duh.

I think you will find it needs about a 2500 stall converter, especially with lower gears. I could really feel it turn on in the 67 I have- very noticeable when you got to about 2200-2500. I still think it's an excellent street cam. Pulls nice on the top end.

    Hello Rich,

I was just looking at your signature and noticed you own a few very rare Pontiacs. I am looking for some information and parts for my 1968 GTO Convertible Ram Air II car. Do you know of anyone who may have a carb and exhaust manifolds?

    Thanks

Hey, have any of you plopped a BBB 455 in front of a super t10? My intentions for my converitble '69 GTO. If anyone has tried such a combination, does the super t-10 hold up to the massive torque of the Buick (not wildly built, 274xe can planned)?

You need either a 7028270 Qjet for RAII auto or 7028273 for stick application. Both are relativley easy to find to find with effort on your part. The good thing is all 69 RAIII 4 speed cars had 7028273 until late 69 because pontiac expected a great demand for those engines and overbuilt Qjets, so they are out there.Exhaust manifolds are reproduced now.I just bought a pair for my 69 RAIV car which I am half finished doing a concours frame off on and they are made of nice ductile iron as opposed to original GM cast iron ones that were brittle and sealed poorly
    Good luck
