It's my first time dealing with Jim on a business transaction. Sure, he's helped me in the past with info, but never any money/ services exchanged. Well let me tell you. What a pleasure to do business with. My hood hinges returned today and they look PERFECT ! The key is they are MINE. Not a pair someone else sent to Jim. They are the ones from MY CAR. THE ONES IT WAS BUILT WITH. Jim went to extrodinary measures ( without me requesting it) to make sure the ones I sent are the ones I got in return. If you've had your hinges done, you know what I'm talking about. If you haven't and are thinking of letting Jim do them, DON'T HESITATE ! Thanks again Jim, Kevin.:TU: :TU:

So what's the skinny on the hood hinges from JW. He cleans 'em up, rebuilds them and powder coats them or what? Mine ('66 GS) are really clean, but the springs are weak and hood doesn't stay up completely (suspect weakening from the powder coating process) and if there is a wind blowing the hood will close while at car shows. Worry about that, so have been keeping hood down, :( which takes away from the whole process of showing the car. They were NOT done by JW, but surely need new springs. Thanks. Jim

These have the factory finish--zinc phosphate. I do not remember seeing the powder coating process being used in 1970 on anything.

    Jim,

I tighten the springs by re-peening the rivets that hold them together, then each hinge/spring is glass beaded and inspected.. after that they go out to my coater for the grey phosphate coating. After I get them back, I inspect each peice, oil them with a light oil, and then they are packed and shipped.

And yes, I do return the exact pieces that are sent to me.

I would say you need new springs, as the heat from the powdercoat process has weakened them.

Thanks for the kind words guys..

New Springs.....! Yep, I was kinda sure that would be the case. Anyone know where I might find the right size springs for my '66 GS hinges? Thanks for the response Jim. I appreciate it. JD :TU:

I nned to have that done, as well as other underhood plating. Can you tell me what you can plate, and how much it costs?

    Frank,

I plate and detail everything under the hood.. but this type of work has to be done in "runs" because the way they price out the plating jobs, it's not effective to do it piece-part for one car..

I will be doing another run of the hood hinges this winter, I have to check my stock of cad plated parts, as to when I am going to have to do another run of that stuff, but I will keep the board posted.

O I C -- I wish there was a way I could send you all my stuff at one time, but OK. Here in Texas we don't have 'downtime"!!:bla: :beer
