I just bought a 71 skylark, was wondering if I could get some information. I am new to this board and new to being a chevy owner, so as a result I know nothing about buicks or their value. I paid 2 grand for a 71 skylark, an original arizona car, no just, with many original gs part, for example the hood (perfect condition)not dents or bondo, the rear spoiler, and aircleaner assembly (ram air). what the car needs is some rear quarter work on the passenger side and a rear bumper, the rest of the body is very nice with only minor dings. also the interior could use a makeover. I havenot picked the car up yet so I haven't gone completly throught it, but it has a 350 that was rebuilt. does this sound like a good deal? I don't know what other gs parts are on it, I will find out as soon as I can figure out what other parts are specific to a gs car. Anyone know where i can locate the rear bumper any on the aftermarket? Let me know. thanks, and I will continue to post questions
Congrats on your purchase. Sounds like a good deal. You can probably find a bumper in the parts section on this board.
71 Only Hi There, You'll need a 71 rear bumper to be correct,a 72 will fit but there are cosmetic differences. It seems like the 71 bumpers are getting rather hard to find..........Jeff
I am new to this board and new to being a chevy owner, Chevy owner??? Just playing with ya but that's a bad typo round these parts. :blast:
71gsclone, Congrats on the car. Any pictures yet? You can try The Parts Place in Elburn IL. for replacement bumpers, you will need to send them a core. Oh & BTW Welcome to the board :beer we are a friendly bunch, lots of help & parts can be found here. Beth
If it's a 71GS clone, with a real 71 GS grille..... you got a smokin' good deal! Those grilles are a 1 year only item, and are VERY hard to find. Chances are, it has regular 71 Skylark grille in it. But it still sounds like a pretty good deal if it's in decent shape. We'd love to see some pictures of your new project. :TU: :beer
71 Clone The bumper can probably be straightened and rechromed unless it's rusted or bent really bad. You can get this done for a couple hundred bucks if you shop around. There was a through the bumper exhaust option (N25) with big rectangular tips - looks really nice. There are reproduction quarter panels available if you need them. New old stock (NOS) GM quarter panels are expensive but better quality.
I will try and get pics on here when I get the car home. and yes, the grille is just a skylark grille. I don't believe the bumper can be straightened, the car was hit on the lower rear quarter at an angle so it hit the bumper and pulled it out at an angle. I will try and find a 71, but a 72 will fit? what are the differences? are the taillights the same?
Hi - Welcome. What's your name? We're all pretty friendly around here and we appreciate if we know how to properly address you. The taillights are different. 1971 has 6 or 8 screws, I can't remember ou: , and the 1972 has 4 screws per lense. The lense itself is also different. Bumpers are also different - 1972 had a 'Buick' nameplate and rubber surrounding the taillights. Same dimentions, but a different look - you can thank Buick :spank:
Where in AZ? I am in Mesa and work in Phoenix. I have some 71 stuff if you need something let me know. What are your plans for the car? John
I also happen to live in mesa and work in az. I'm picking up the car tomorrow. It will also need the passenger side axle replaced? but I am not sure on what rear end is in the car, i know it's a 10 bolt, but someone told me it might me an 8.5 or 8.2. I have no idea, I was going to wait to get one after I pulled it out. Other than that, all i need is basically cosmetic stuff, the interior needs redone, but I can get most of it through the aftermarket. What kind of stuff do you have?
Welcome to the board. It's great to have another AZ Buick guy around. Good luck, it sounds like you have a great start. :TU:
I have lots of little stuff. Speedometers, clocks, drums, spindles, brackets, distributors, 350 V8 core motor, wiring, turn signal lamps, 350 fan shroud, 14" painted ralley wheels etc. Need to clean out some stuff. If you need something I could deliver it. Any excuse to drive the car. Also can help you find parts in town, like the axle. You should have an 8.5 check this link and site out. http://www.buickperformance.com/85rear.htm John
thanks, one of those clocks might me on the list, I noticed it was missing from the car and there was a tach in it's place, I would kind of like to keep it the way it's supposed to be. If you know of any place locally where I can pick up an axle let me know.
