I am going out on a limb and trying to find some A/FX parts that were sold at Penneys back in the 60's and 70's. I recently had a set of 14x7 slots given to me that are super nice and would like to find some other parts to match the wheels. I am looking for a set of gauges and a tach. The were made by dixco or dixson for Penneys. I would also be interested in other items as well. Valve covers,shifters..... anything really. Hope you guys can help me out. Thanks in advance.
Never would've thought about Pennys vintage speed parts! Check this link out --> http://carzhunt.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html Notice the headers in this ad? Good 'ole M/T Super Scavengers!
Yea I never knew they had their own speed shop. I'm only 30 so I guess it was before my time. The wheels I got sat in the guys garage since 1973. The tires were dated 71 so they were only used 2 years. They cleaned up great and shine like New. I believe they were made by Ansen and sold through Penneys. I just wonder how much of the A/fx stuff was made and how much survived. Thanks again guys.
Matt You would not believe this but I have a complete set of radial tires made for JC Penny and they are still in good shape. I purchased my 71 GS350 4 speed car 30 years ago with those tires. George
Yea I don't doubt that, the ones that were on my wheels had no dry rot at all. The 2 front tires were wore on the inside pretty hard and 1 back one had rubbed and was cracked but the other back one was great. They were bias from 1971.
Well it's not an Af/x tach but it's a nice sun tach. How much with shipping to 17402 York,pa. A buddy of mine has a 65 442 and was interested. Thanks.
What is a good polish to use on aluminum wheels? I am using mothers and it works good just seeing if there is anything better
Blue Magic metal polish cream. You can get it at Autozone, ebay, etc. The best I have used. A little goes a long way, and the result is fantastic.
Boy, does that bring back memories!! I worked several positions at JCP automotive while in HS and just after as an "Automotive Sales Associate". I sold all that stuff and had most of what would fit, on my 65 GS. Those were some fun days! Didn't make squat for money, but had a lot of fun and learned a few things along the way!! I wish I would have kept some of the stuff I had from those days! I threw the last of the JCP stuff out about 10 years ago. I must of had half a dozen "Hurst AF/X 3 speed conversion shifters" still in the boxes. Steve
Found this with a quick ebay search: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tachometer-...ries&hash=item3ce1f7b557&vxp=mtr#ht_24wt_1137 Looks a little rough...
I saw that on EBay. It is a little rough but if it works it is a start. Waiting to hear back if it works.
Absolutely !! Good for aluminum, stainless steel, chrome, and gold It makes a hard job easy, like it's magic
Zephyr 40 metal Polish was recommended to me. Used to bring these wheels back to life. Mothers and Blue Magic wouldn't touch them.
Looks like it worked good on the left one but not so good on the right one. Maybe its the lighting. jk
