I'm not under any misconception that my 70 GS 350 clone is a lightning fast drag racer, I built it because I've loved the GS since my dad rolled in the driveway with one in 1970, and regretted the day my mom made me junk it in '79 when I was 14 and had it in pieces after my brother wrecked it because we had to move and "that piece of crap wasn't coming to my new house". I strayed away for years and have been building first gen Camaros most of my life since, but I get really tired of being 1 of 150 Camaros when I go to a show, so I got the bug for a GS. The Skylark I bought from N2Buick was perfect, a sound body foundation with a running 350 with a Poston intake and headers, a great start to build a car just to cruise and have fun with. So, fast forward a year she's all done and looking great and I'm driving home from a local show on a two lane and stop at a light next to a Dodge pickup, you know them, the ones painted up to look like an RT Challenger with the stripes and that HEMI badge on the fender. I look over and hear the idle pick up and see the suspension start to load as he power brakes it, trying to not be too obvious. My wife just gave me that look because she knew what was coming. I just sat there and waited, no power braking, no revving just me and my 350 buick, dropped down into first of course. The light went green he jumped on it and so did I. By the time I slid the column shifter up into second he was in my rearview and never did catch up! Just goes to show even those lowly Buick 350's can kill a HEMI!:TU:
Jeff, Nice kill... Got any other pics of your car? I have a 70 SeaMist green Skylark with a black standard bench interior and a green top. What color is the top on your car? Most I have seen are black.I would like to keep the green top when it needs replaced.
Thanks for the comments, it's always fun to let people know old Detroit iron still rules. Pat: the top and interior are black, here are some other shots.
Jeff, Your car looks like the twin of one a friend in high school had. It was no slouch by any means, which is why I think the 350 GS cars don't deserve the disrespect they often seem to get. :TU:
I agree, but for some reason most just skoff as soon as they see it's not a 455 (especially with the bench seat and column shifter). That's why I added the 3:42 posi 12 bolt and a line lock. Nothing says "oh yeah" like a 2 gear posi burnout!:bla:
