Yes it looks like there is some crap inside, I took one of the lifters apart they at least looked clean but not much to them, just the cup on top with clip and a disc inside. There is the cavity where the hydraulic parts would be, now it is an oil holder waiting to squirt out the bottom.
My brother got his new Procharger on his 347 Mustang, should take his old one from him and throw it on the 350.
He is yelling at me to about taking too long lol I am moving along, I just like to check everything and sometimes you have to re remember how do I do that?

I got one step closer this weekend those pushrods had crap inside I blew brake cleaner thru and blew out with air. The lifters were in good shape no crap in those and not much to them just a disc inside and the clip with cup on top. I sprayed thru the hole in the lifter to see how the oil would come out and it sprays out the bottom hole good, it should oil the daylights out of those cam lobes.

Now it is time to get the lawnmower ready with blades sharp and the deck cleaned and repainted. This next 8 weeks is going to be brutal getting everything going at once, plus getting new roofing and siding done plus garage doors on our barn so that will be an improvement. So would like to get engine back together and done before all that starts.

I have a question. With the lifters with the EDM hole in bottom when you put the cam lube on and install this would you put cam lube on bottom of lifters also and would you fill them up with oil or wait until the oil pump is in and and pump it that way with the hole in bottom of lifter will this wash the lube off cam? What about adjusting lifters I am sure you are going to rotate the engine one turn to get everything adjusted would you put any more cam lube on or pump oil and finish up.
In other words what have you done to put in a solid cam with EDM lifters do you do anything different with these.
I never did a solid cam so that is why I am asking the questions, as I have done the rest before but this is new one for me.

I would do the install and break in the same way you do hydraulic lifters.

I don't think there is anything different you can do.... Lash needs to be set. You need the cam lube, break-in oil, and to prime it. You have the inner springs removed. Should be good to go.
The EDM hole will just keep the contact between lobe & lifter wet during the 20 min break-in.

I can pre fill the lifters but the oil pump will probably do that when priming. If I pre fill the lifters would that wipe the cam lube off as the lash is being adjusted. I know the lifters would move the cam lube around as you have to adjust the hydraulics with the roller rockers, but now there is a hole in bottom of lifter to let oil onto the cam.
Along with lubing the cam I would lube the bottom of lifter help with keeping the oil from coming out and cleaning the lube off. Could the lube plug up the hole,? probably not just a thought.
You guys all know how much the flat tappet can fail on ya just trying to make sure I got it right the first time.
I have the right break in oil the zddp, then the oil with zddp I bought all Joe Gibbs oil to do this.

You could lube everything, set lash, prime pump, then pop rocker shafts off to re-lube lifter faces if you're worried... Then bolt rocker shafts back down install intake, carb, dist, and valve covers & fire it up.
I don't think your lash would change more than .001
You will be re-checking lash anyway after breakin & some run time.... don't go anal on us....:D:D:D:rolleyes:

I brushed the cam lube on and was like glue on there so I think it will be good I put the lube on bottom of lifter and used the side hole to fill up the lifter, the lube was holding the oil for now. The cam is in and lifters and the pushrods so next is putting the rockers on and adjusting, all looked good.

So my next stupid project is fixing a spring on the brakes on the camper since we are using it soon, got to change oil on truck and really need to take snow tires off car, put on the summer tires and lube the stupid slides on the brakes on my Toyota the back ones always like to lock up then I have to buy new calipers so I have to grease them up or they get stuck and there goes the brakes. Everything comes too fast in spring cold for too long then bam warm and must mow grass lol

Sorry folks this can take a few more too cold for me and have to work on camper brakes for quick trip. Getting warm this weekend may get something done.
I did set the rollers on number 1 cylinder to see how it was working out adjusted to .020 as card suggests
I just need to see if the feel with the gauge under the roller has more/or less give pulling feeler gauge with roller as compared to going sideways across the roller on rocker.

The TA studs for the shaft system is better than it used to be, I bought theses and they are nice, fine threads at top with a allen on top to tighten them up Plus they are longer now and have a nice thick washer and a nut that has a wide solid end that is same as washer size worth buying to make that shaft stay in place.
