Is this Cool ??? Laser etching on our windows .....Friend of mine has a few flat-bed Laser cutters at his shop so I was playing around over there tonight with a piece of spare glass and a picture I grabbed from here.
close up - this is very crude as I had no good imaging software on hand to work with but the possiblities are endless !! For a size refference, the V8 logo is a little over 6" and the car picture is about 8" wide.
The actual laser etching took about 10 minutes for the whole job......Its the Setup that takes time, and correctly "regestering" the glass on the flatbed so it etches exactly on the desired area. "Cutting" the GS out of a picture using software that didn't have a Magic Lasseo took about an hour - something that could have been done with a mouse-click in PhotoShop The etching of the GS is VERRRRRY crude - I'll be playing with some more real soon. Im going to try scanning in the B/W pictures from the Chasis and Parts Manual and they should work ALOT better - the program had to "interpret" the colors of the picture into grey-tones as opposed to a good B/W which it will do ALOT better with. If you guys are interested, I could offer this as a service. The etching just skims the surface and doesn't damage the integrity of the glass at all. You could either ship me your glass (If the date code is important) or I could work with FRESH replacement glass. Just about anything you can imagine can be etched in I think we're going to try it on the inside of the glass next and it should look a bit better / sharper. I bet I could even etch an order form or build sheet into the rear side glass .....or a picture of your Mom :bglasses: Ohhh.....and Reynold ?? Its Puff, Puff, PASS !!......Puff, Puff, PASS !!...... o No:
That looks really cool Alan, but shouldn't you be busy shipping out DVD's and not playing with glass? p Beth
Nope - all caught up with the orders - as promised :TU: Now Im just figuring out how to etch Doug's BUTT onto a piece of DaWagon TailGate glass :moonu:
Pretty cool Alan. :TU: I'd pay for that on a piece of glass with the trishield emblem, maybe a boattail back window :Brow: Or does it have to be flat? o No:
....or how about the Riviera "R" on the boattail glass It does need to be near flat as the laser beam has to be focused - he's got an attachment that rotates curved stuff like drinking glasses but I dont think it could handle that unique peice.
