I dont know what to do.. I was trying but I cant seem to figure it out so I guess I need a computer DR.!!
Are you familiar with DOS? I imagine you may be able to get the system.ini file from your wife's computer and install it back into yours...at least to get it to boot up. I would probably format after I saved all my data though. OR you could buy a new hard drive and use the current one as a piggy-back drive for storage...and you can still have all the data on that drive that is currently on it now.
Did somebody call for The Computer Doctor, L.L.C.? Need a geek? I make housecalls! Boot your PC with the windows XP disk. You can call me and I'll walk you through the repair process. Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't. PM me and I'll give you my phone number.
Don't you just love Windoze? Shutting down with the power button (instead of the correct way) will do that. So will a virus, or many other things (including Windoze just being Windoze). Once I was able to boot with the install CD, find a "backup" of the file, and rename it to what Windoze was looking for. Typically you have to use the repair feature. Most recently, a drive at work went bad - after running checkdisk from the recovery console we learned the drive has a physical problem. If you're not familiar with doing computer things the hard way, first try putting in your Windoze cd, booting from it, and using the repair option. Failing that, you can try installing again (there are a few ways you can do this which will not erase your whole drive). Good luck. It can be a bit confusing - I'd take Yardley's offer.
Yardley is correct, Sometimes the repair works, sometimes it doesn't. In my experience, its more not than does... but you never know. Three words I've learned in my 7 years in the industry, "Backup, Backup, Backup" I generally do a rebuild of my computer once every 6 months-8months or as needed. It would be a good idea for me to get some sort of Imaging software but who wants to spend money on software when I have a non-running Buick to fix? Good luck Mike - Thats not a total loss as your data is still recoverable (if you need help, you can ship the HD to me and I'll take care of what I can for you and ship it back!)
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YARDLEY IS THE MAN!!!! WE sat on the phone till LATE last night and he walked me thru it, and IM back in business. A VERY BIG THANK YOU to Yardley!!!
and if you dont want a mac, this new version of windows will help out also... http://www.deanliou.com/WinRG/ click the "run demo" button
That is just pure evil man! :error: I couldn't quit it, I had to go to End Task on my PC to shut the damn thing off. LOL!
haha.. sorry about that. did you click on all the buttons and stuff? its pretty fun. sad that its so true though... pete
I had that screen back late last year. Lost everything, but then I got back all my hd space. Stupid dell computer never had a problem with my sony vaio pc.
