A machine shop rebuilt a 430ci motor for me and left some steel abracive beads in the suction side of the oil pump, after trying to prime the oil pump with no sucess that is when I found this problem!!!!!!!! Now after pulling the pump apart I found the oil pump end cover to be scored and the gears chewed up and the timing cover has 2 score lines in the body! My question is how critical is the scores in the timing cover gear body? I have other gears and can get the end cover machined, but not sure about the timing cover!!!!! Any help will be great!! How bad are the score lines? Can you post pics? As long as the scores are not really bad, you could get by with a booster plate with your original oil pump cover. I would also recommend installing an adjustable regulator. That way you know what you have. Make sure that you have the proper clearances when you put the gears in. Also fill the gear pocket with petroleum jelly before you put the gears in for final assembly.

Make darn sure that all of the cleaning media is out of the engine! Drain the oil and see what is in there. You may (hopfully not) have an even bigger issue.

    Good Luck!
