Is my car priced too high?

I have had my car listed here, and on ebay a couple times. I sent pictures showing every defect I know of so there's no unwanted surprises for the buyer. I paid more than I'm asking for the car, even after fixing many things and making the car mechanically sound(except for the rusted exhaust which I told everyone who was interested). Here's a link to the thread on this board. I thought my price was reasonable, if I'm too high, be honest and let me know. I thought the car was worth it when I bought it, even before fixing her mechanical issues. Is this what happens when you're honest about the condition? It looks like to sell the car I'm going to spend the $1400 I was quoted for the body/paint work.

    Thanks,
    Artie

    Artie,

I wish I had the cash to get her from ya.... Maybe a couple of months from now. But now I'm dry.

    66 & 67's are among my favorites :(

    Good Luck

In my experience, this is a bad time of year to sell anything but cheap Christmas gifts.

NJVetteGuy....I'd wait alittle bit before spending anymore on it, it'll sell, right person hasn't seen it yet, I paid 3,200.00 and 590.00 for shipping for mine and mine aint even a GS but I was happy too and still am, before I'd paint that car, I would spend a day buffing it out and trying to get a shine on it then try again.....unless it just needs to go right now, I'd sit on it till about March, then try again to sell it. :TU:

Artie-I think the guys are right-your car would go very quickly in April-not as many buyers right now.

When I was shoppin for cars there were a couple times I wondered what they were hiding under that fresh paint job. You're asking $2950 and want to add $1400. will it make it worth$4350?

I'd wait like they're saying above. THis is something you buy yourself. It's hard right now to buy stuff for yourself. next month that's much easier.

Right now ( a week before Christmas) timing is an issue.
On the repaint just before selling, my first thought when I look at a old car that was just repainted and now is for sale is "what are they hiding".
I have heard too many horror stories. And besides, unless it is a color I like, I don't want to pay extra for somebody else's color choice.

    Ditto.... what everone else said.

I have spent so much money in the last few weeks that I am sick of it.
...and I am heading out to shop again in a few minutes.

Price is right. Don't paint it, store it and drive it to spring at Carlisle, PA.

Great excuse to go to the show.

Good Answer! People go to Carlisle with cash in pocket for the sole purpose of buying a car.
Just my opinion, but if I was buying a car that I considered to be a 'project', I'd much rather it be in original paint. That way, I could see exactly what I was getting. But then, some buyers don't want 'projects'. Body and paint work is very expensive these days.
BTW, is that the original paint on the car? From what I can tell your car doesn't need much to be a great car. Price looks good to me!

Only other constructive advice I can offer is to work on the e-bay ad.....Did you ever see one of the e-bay ads George (staged67power) has put together? ....A real work of art! Lots of pics, and a real nice presentation. He's across the river from you right? Give him a shout....

You know....I don't have a '66 with AC yet, or one with a white interior, or a black one.... My finger was shaking above that 'but it now' button a few times!

On the paint vs leave it issue-I think it might depend some on the car and likely buyer market. With somebody that is not real 'hands on' with the cars, they may want to walk around it, drive it make a yes-no decision and that's it. I have a couple extra Calif baked seafoam Wildcats-no rust, but poor paint. I think some buyers might like to change color and, I agree, it's nice to see that there is nothing being hidden under fresh paint. But that does lose some sales, too.

Thanks for the replies guys, I thought my price was in line but was starting to seriously have doubts. By the time it's a seller's market again, I most likely will be past my current financial difficulties. I think I'm going to do the body and paint, and keep it original (the car was originally dark green with a white interior). I sat down with my body/paint guy, and have the option of doing some engine/trans work on his '68 Firebird to help defray the cost. It looks like I'm just going to have to sell off some more parts to hold me over until money starts coming in again.
