Is it a GS?

There's an interesting story behind my 65 Buick, but this isn't the time nor place. The important thing here is that it was owned by a body shop owner, and every emblem has been shaved save the hood and the trunk. Still, it has this ribbed aluminum rocker trim that I haven't seen on standard Rivieras. I have seen it on GSs. Is there any way of finding out?

    Thanks. :beer

Check the numbers in the door and vin. look for the build sheet under seats, and various places on the veh.

The ribbed lower molding wasn't a part of the GS package. It was a separate option that most 1965 Riviera GS had but it was an individual option.
It was also included in the 1965 Custom interior trim package.
1963-67 Rivs with Custom trim have an additionnal door handle in their door panels or the rear passengers.
Custom trim was an option on both the non-GS and GS models.

One thing that was standard on the 65 Riviera GS was the dual quad 425 engine. If the car has a single carb, it is very unlikely to be a GS unless the engine was replaced.
The dual quad was also available as a separate option so not all dual quads have GS package.
On 65 and 66 models, there was also a GS badge (GranSport in 65) that identified GS models on the glove box door.

That's what I was looking for.

    Thanks.
Mine has that option. The door handles are like you said. I'll go check out that site now. :TU:

    GS or not

the ribbed rockers were part of the deluxe interior package. just because it has dual quads doesn 't make it a gran sport. it could be a 401 with someone adding the 2x4's sometime in the past. i would advise you to check the motor code and number. all gran sports came with the 2x4's and were 425 motors that were coded LX. regular single 4bbl 425 motors were coded LW. 401's were LT codes and mid-year 401's for skylark gran sports were coded LR. it should also have a BS coded trans. i hate to see anyone get taken so please,do your homework and check all the numbers you can. just my .02.

    Uh huh.

I have the LT engine. I haven't seen the transmission. It's an ST400. I can tell that by the shift indicator and the nifty gadgetry under the hood. See, mine has the rear handles and spiffy trim. I highly doubt that it's a GS, but it's nice to know I have a specific option that I was formerly unaware of. The car was originally burgundy, but it's soon going to be flat black. It has too many primer spots to be uniform enough. Sure was a pretty color. It's plenty cool as it is.
    Thanks.

with it having a LT code it's not a gran sport. i would check the motor # against the serial #. i think it's the last 5 or 6 numbers should match. you may find out you still have a #'s matching car which makes it worth money.
