This would be in a car that I will drive to work when I want to have fun, but definetly not a daily driver. I'd like to cruise to the track when I can. Thanx.
John, I think you'll get differing opinions here on running a spool. I'm of the understanding that they can be very hard on axles and should only be used for the track. That being said, a friend of mine has a Pro street 67 Chevy II with a spool, Strange axles and 14x32 street tires. He's had the car like this for close to 15 years, drives on the steet with it in the summer, and has never had a problem.
I saw a guy with a spool almost lose his life on the street. He was turning onto a busy road and he needed to goose it a bit to pull out. well, he hit it while he was turning, not hard but the car swung around since the tires were already slipping a bit. he didn't get hit, but it was sooo close.
I welded up the gears in an open rear once, effectively making a spool. You do need to be careful when nailing it in a turn. Also, tight turns like in parking lots make the tires squeal. On wet pavement it would be a handful for sure.
I got on board a bit late here, but I run a spool in mine on the street, and it only really sucks when you have to parallel park. Power steering might make it easier, too . . . I just got sick of burning out posi clutches. I second the hard turn thing, too: Spool + Throttle + Turn = Instant Donuts.
The wagon you hot, old, male MILF! I parked the ugly suburban in your driveway last night at miidnight.
