Just curious how many people have used an Internet Phone and what problems did you have. I installed mine on Monday. I was talking with a friend Yesterday evening and surfing the internet. He said it sounded like my land line. My land line will be disconnected in about a week. Benefit for me is Local cost me $54 (expensive for local service) The New system runs $20 total.... and I can call western europe and it is a local call. I use a service called Lingo.

I haven't used an "ip" phone but I have used a microphone while using a few different instant messengers. Is the $20 one time fee?

This is a totally diffrent animal then the speaker/Microphone version for example. Yahoo instant messanger. The System is setup with a cable modem then connected to a box used to plug in an ethernet cable Between the Cable modem and PC. It acts as a router in a way. A telephone cable Physically plugs into the box. So you use an actual telephone - Cordless also.
The Cost is $20 a month. I can call Canada, Western Europe, and all over the US for $20 a month. I think it is a heck of a deal for the price. Compared to my local only telephone for $54 a month. :Brow:

  4. Have you checked into what you display as on someone's caller ID?

The reason I asked is because I've heard IP phones wreck havoc on E911.

I have not heard of any problems with Caller ID.

The only problems I know of at this point is:

    1. You must use 11 Digit Dialing - This means you must use 1 and the area code on all calls local or long distance. (not a big issue to me)

    2. The 911 System is relayed. If you dial 911 on the IP Phone, the Service provider immediatly patches through to Local authoritys (Hope It works as well as they say in the case of an emergency)
