A rarity with A/C. Looks in good condition with low miles. Funny it doesn't say any Invicta on it anywhere's, BUT being a '62 a LeSabre would have had a low compression 401 2bbl. carb. Can't see the shift quadrant to see IF it still has the DynaFlow pattern of Park, Neutral, Drive, Low, Reverse or been changed to the Turbo 350 pattern. ALSO looks like it has never been bopped in the front as the fender line/hood lines match up & the front bumper doesn't look tweaked.
Did that once with a '69 SW 400. AZ to MD. Loaded it up w/parts from the yards out there. What an awesome experience/memory.
That had to be fun...always wanted to do it but never did Have you seen vice grip garage on YouTube? Funny... finds some old junker that’s been sitting, buys it, gets it running and drives it home
It was a blast despite it being 1st week of July banging around in junkyards in AZ. We (another board member went) took tools & a box of common parts (belts, hoses, pumps, etc). Bought a roof rack off a Vista Cruiser @ one the yards & installed it for the ride home. Had a friend out there (now a board member but wasn't then) who let us stay at his place. Day we got there it was 116° & locals said it had "cooled off." Was around 112° the rest of the time so I guess we got "lucky." Had to buy a radiator for the car but the owner knocked $100 off the price of the car. He was just a regular guy but couldn't sell the car locally ($1k for a rust free '69 SW 400) so his mechanic suggested he list it in Hemmings. Bought 2 tires (and scouted another yard) in Amarillo TX. We'd loaded it down pretty well & the rear tires were sketching us out w/the heat lol. Four things that really stood out about Phoenix were the amount of bottled water in the grocery stores, the vast number of radiator shops, the # of old rust-free beaters that were still on the road (was early '90's) and that no cars in the junkyards had much in the way of original A/C parts. Also while we were there I bought a super nice '68 Jeep M-715 that was sitting on a used car consignment lot. I already had both a '69 SW 400 & an M-715 at home that were both pretty rusty. Had that one transported home - The 5.13 gears would've made for a long ride. Only downside to the trip was I had to be back for a class and we had to rush a bit to get home. Wound up going w/the same board member a couple years later to Arkansas & doing the exact same thing to pick up his '69 SW 400. The dude he bought it from was sketchy & got kinda irate when we pointed out some stuff that wasn't exactly as advertised, especially with the guy knowing we were flying in & driving the car home. He quickly paid the guy & we got out of there. We stopped a few miles away for the first round of repairs but was still a fun trip & great memories. I'd love to do it again. Have seen a few prospects over the past few years. Seems like it'd be even easier these days. No cell phones, uber, etc. back then. I only watched the 1st part of the Cadillac buried in the field episode of Vice-Grip Garage. A bit too much drama for me.
That sounds like a blast.. cool car to get too..I’d like to do it but the last thing I need is another car, Presently I have the ‘72 Beetle A 1996 F150 xl 4x4 with 71k original miles and an ‘09 Charger r/t with the R/t pkg basically a Daytona without the stripes I purchased new, no Buick’s presently but still a Buick fan, however if the right Buick or AMC Gremlin came along I’d have to consider
While I'd love to do it again, I don't need any more cars either, lol. Funny, my mom bought a brand new '76 Gremlin when I was a little kid. I remember going to the dealer & checking out all the Jeeps. Salesman took me for a test drive in a CJ-5 on an off-road course they has behind the dealership.
Also did this, in about 1999, northern California to Minneapolis with Dad and Bro, brought home '65 Sportwagon. Really fun. No problems whatsoever. And, since Dad died a few years later, glad we struck while the iron was hot. As the old song goes, "Enjoy yourself....it's later than you think."
That’s one of the reasons I like the Hot Rod Power Tour so much. Great way to see Americana at its finest! I like this wagon too!
