I am new to your board and have enjoyed reading over the past few days. I am looking for Buick information because my grandfather is the original owner of a 1973 Electra 225 Custom Limited. I've always loved the car and am considering buying it, caring for it, and improving it. Otherwise, I'm planning to sell it for him. In the research I've done, however, I haven't seen a photo or description of this exact model. I am attaching a photo of the trunk to show you the difference. Except for the trunk, it looks like any other 73 Electra I've found. Please let me know if you have any information, or a likely source for me to use. I've been searching the web and bought the Standard Catalog of Buick, but haven't found anything yet.
Woah! That's a new one to me... I wonder if that was a dealer thing........ Welcome to the board:beer
That was my first thought as well, but my grandfather can't remember. There's a bunch of original documentation and I haven't read all of it. Maybe something in there could give a clue?
Something in there could give a clue or actual documentation. Goodluck. :TU: BTW: Where in IL were you?
2 more photos Here are some more photos. My grandfather is alive, but hasn't been able to recall some of the details of the purchase.
Some sort of continental kit. Did the spare tire go under the bulge? Maybe you could shoot some pictures of the underside of the trunk lid.
add ons With Lincoln having the tire bulge in the trunk over the years after the Contenental Kits went by the wayside(I Know I Know you can still get them) the aftermarket guys jumped on the chance to offer these trunk lids for allot of different luxury makes. That and the Wide Chrome "Rolls Royce Cap" on the front of the car above the grill. Welcome to the world of Buicks and enjoy your grand dads Buick :TU:
When I lived in LA in the middle to late 70's, the local Buick dealer would order Electra 225 coupes in wild colors like lime green, orange, bright red with a padded vinyl roof and white leather interior. The dealer would then add wire basket wheels, fake Rolls Royce grille, and that fake spare tire hump on the trunk lid. My dad would just shake his head.
Thanks All I appreciate all your comments, knowledge, and good wishes. As I go through all the paperwork, I'll look for some comment about the dealer modification. You've resolved one of the great mysteries of my childhood - Why is that hump there if there's nothing in it?
