I need to re-paint some plastic interior parts in my 72 GS. I need to do the plastic backs to the front seats, plastic parts of the interior door handles, and the plastic pieces by the door jams, etc. My interior is Saddle in color. Where do I get this paint? What is the code? Any tips? Etc??

    Thank you!

Get SEM vinyl dye. Visit any local Sherwin Williams auto paint store and you can get it there or order from them. Costs about $8/can. Works great.

    Here is the color chart:

for any of the "slick" plastic parts, which are polypropylene, you will need to use an adhesion promoter.

Polypropylene parts: Bucket seat backs and bases, kick panels, Bench seat w/armrest armrest surround----use SEM FLEXIBLE BONDING CLEAR and follow the instructions (they may instruct to apply first color coat while Clear is still wet).

Dash plastic is ABS plastic---would use SEM SAND FREE product on this part first.

Armrest bases--not sure--some seem flexible like polypropylene, others seem stiffer like they are an ABS type material. You probably can't go wrong with using FLEXIBLE BONDING CLEAR or at least SAND FREE first on these parts.

MOST IMPORTANTLY -----CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN the parts---HOT!!! water and lots of scrubbing. If the seatbacks are already "chalky" or oxidizing then there's not much you can do--the dye will look very flat in those areas.

Not to disrespect or to necessarily refute my esteemed Buick buds above in whom I have the utmost respect, but I used lacquer on every one of those parts. My advice came from the Year One catalog which clearly contradicts the advice above "Repaint [with interior lacquer paint] any hard plastic trim such as seatbacks, armrest bases....." I painted a thick coat on those that had the nasty sun-damage chalky yuck. I even used it on the kickpanels. If you know anything about r and r of vented kick panels you know they get abused on reinstall. But the paint stayed put.

Two years later (and I drive mine at least a 1000 mile a year and drag the family to church in the car) the paint still looks great. I cleaned and cleaned and cleaned.

What about finding the correct color? Are there paint color codes? My Interior is Saddle in color. Thanks for the replies.

I went to an auto paint supplier and looked in his books for the correct Buick interior color. Then had him mix it in lacquer.

Cut it 2:1 with thinner and a PreVal unit sprays it very nicely. It even puts a nice sheen on it.

Can someone please help with the color code for 1972 Buick Saddle interior? The parts/paint stores in my town don't have books that go back that far. Or does anyone know where I can buy spray cans, the stores near me don't mix spray cans. I don't mind buying a small amount (quart?) and mixing it either.

    Thank you.

after autocolorlibrary call tower paint ( the number is in hemmings ) and give them the paint code and they will sell it to you in spray cans. be sure to tell them to flatten the paint. i used semi gloss lacquer on my interior plastic parts and it looks great.
