I am completely redoing my interior and bought all my plastic paint, dye and
Sem products from Year One.I just had all the plastic pieces for the bucket seats painted (Pearl White) and they are not even close to matching my new
pearl white seat covers and door panels I bought. Has anyone else had a similar problem? I am getting very frustrated at how much wasted money i have to spend to have something come out right ( seems like 3 times before its done right)!!

Please shed some light if you had this problem. Thanks, Gary

Matching all the piece colors for pearl interior is a very common problem.

    Gary,
Pearl White or "that f%^king color" as it is known in many body and resto shops across the country is one of the most difficult interiors to match all components. Depending on the piece and the prep, two of the same trim pieces can turn out completely different.
But it is also one of the nicest when it is all said and done.

    GStage1 Always looking for parts!

Did use SEM Super White, 15103? Then use Parts Place Pearl topcoat.

    Pearl White Interior

    Bill,

Thanks for the feed back. I guess i will try again with a different pearl white and test 1 part before painting them all. George, I bought Year One's paint system and it consisted of a base coat then a top coat. I am going to call them tomorrow to see if i can get some answers. The upholstry and painted parts were not even close. I will try your suggestion on 1 peice and see how it looks. Thanks, Gary

The plastic and soft vinyl parts in our cars of all colors quite often did not match even from thne factory beacause of the different materials and how they reacted to pain/dye.

Gary also there is a place in Wisconsin called Tower paints. I gave them the paint codes for 71 Saddle colr and they mixed it and sent it to me in spray cans. Most cans were right on but 2 were a shade off. Mybe you should try them if you can find correct codes.

what Copperhead said--I don't think these polypropylene pieces (bucket seatbacks, armrest bases, etc) were ever exactly matched to the vinyl from the factory. In fact, I would almost bet they had NO PEARL in them in terms of color. Maybe I'm wrong but don't get too upset if you can't get them to a pearl look like the seat vinyl. More likely, GM colored those plastic pieces to a certain shade of white and left it at that.

Some of the repro parts may have this look but that doesn't mean the originals were that way---the aftermarket has a way of revising history sometimes and many times their parts are the last thing you want to rely on as an example of what the parts looked like originally.

On a 70 Olds I am working on I don't recall seeing any pearl look on the backside of the original seatbacks or armrest bases(on the backside where the sun never hit these parts). This hardtop has the Olds version of the "pearl white interior".

O.K. maybe i am getting to fussy. I look at these interior pics from the catalogs of Year One and expect the same.If i can figure how to post a picture of the seats and parts i will this week. Not to get off the subject, but Dave did you happen to pick up the manifold yet? let me know Gary
