I have replaced several of the "tin" valley pan gaskets over the years and never had any problems.:TU: My question concerns the silicone-beaded, composite gaskets that I recently purchased from P.A.E. .....Do I need to do anything to them in preparation for assembly?..spray tack...R.T.V......gasgacinch....anti-seize....or do I just install them "dry'??o No: Thanks in advance for any advise on this.
Adam, They can be installed dry. I do like to use something like copper coat or brush tack on the head side to help hold the gasket in place so it does not slip when you install the intake. The silicone beading does work good, I figure if it works on chevy with the beading only on one side, it will work for Buick . Jim Burek
Quick question on top of that. I am switching to a 430 from a 340 and noticed the metal intake gasket for the first time, can this be reused? Should it? Or does the other gaskets you find out there like the one Adam has work fine alone?
I spent ALOT of time making sure the intake fits perfectly, soo... I CAN re-use the metal 'bathtub' gasket over and over. 3 separate coats of Hi-Tack on EACH SIDE. No problems.:TU: Otherwise I'd be using comp. gaskets of the appropriate thickness, and Hi-Tack.
I have seen many people re-use valley pans and steel shim head gaskets useing spray copper. Never any problems. Steve
Jim, thank you for your response. That's just what I needed to know. Have not been on the board for a couple days or I would have thanked you sooner!!
