Installing Triple Gauges, Need Help Please

    Hello All,

    I am going to be installing my triple gauges soon and was wondering a few things before I get started.

    1. I can install the oil pressure/water temp either elect or mech. Which is preferable?

    2. Where exactly are my existing sending units for the water and oil located on a 67 GS400? Very important question, yes!!!

    3. I want to retain the dummy light connections. Is this possible if using mechanical install on the new guages?

    4. I think I read somewhere when I searched the topic to use copper tubing for the oil pressure. Is there a kit I can pick up that will have all of the tubing, fittings, etc?

    Please help. Any or all of the questions will be big help.

    Just Curious

    I was wondering, on my sending unit there is space for two wires. Is something else supposed to go here, OR, would it be possible to place a new connector in here to use the new gauge?
    If so would there be anyway to test this before running the new wires so I could make sure the old sending unit is functioning properly.

    Also, where do I tap into to get the power to come on when the ignition switch is turned on?

    Just wondering.

    Jarrod,
    There is no difference in the accuracy of electrical vs. mechanical gauges, however, the mechanical gauges have a larger sweep (270*) than the electrical gauges(90*), and they have more lines, so they are easier to read accurately. Take a look at the pictures of the mechanical and electrical gauges. In the mechanical gauges there is a line every 5 psi and every 5*. In the electrical there is a line every 12.5 psi and every 25*, and then 15*, and then 20*. If the needle is in between lines, which one is easier to read accurately? Autometer sells the copper line kit as part # 3224 for 8.99 in Jegs. The picture you posted is your stock temperature sender. You can use the hole on the other side of your intake for your gauge. The oil pressure install is a simple tee available anywhere. Take a look at the pictures in the next 2 posts. Hope that helps.

    These are electrical gauges. See the difference and the advantage of a mechanical gauge??

    Are you saying that the hole in the stock sending unit can be used if I put a wire in it, or another hole in the intake which I do not see.

    I don't see another hole available for use of the new sending unit with the new gauge.

    I am lost!!!

    Here are the gauges, they are small, but so have a full sweep. Of course they are out of the mounting bracket.

    Jarrod,
    I know the 455 intakes have a threaded hole on either side of the thermostat bulge. The passenger side typically has the stock temp sender(no you cannot simply put another wire in there), and the other side has a thermovacuum switch. Earlier intakes may be different. I would replace the stock idiot light sender with the gauge sender and just run a gauge if you do not have another hole .

    no, i don't see another hole. i am just going to use the hole where the stock unit goes, and not use the stock one
