im thinking of installing new carpet in my 72. the original carpet is on its last leg and i had a leaky heater core last week so now its even more discolored. my question is how do i remove the floor shifter? i see two screws inside the compartment, but is there any other screws/ bolts holding it to the floor? how do i remove the shifter handle to get the entire thing out so i can take out the seats and remove the old carpet?

    thx

First remove the chrome clip over the top of the shift handle. Pull out at the bottom ends and it snaps off. Then two Phillips screws on each side of the handle and it comes off. Remove the screws in the console box. Then the black Buick plate in the front snaps out and there is another screw under that. Be careful with that piece as it in not reproduced, expensive/rare in good condition, and fragile.
