i'm doing the 350 to 455 swap. it looks like the brake proportioning valve is going to be close to the headers. does it have to get moved or is is it ok where it is ? i'm using TA engine mount kit, and headers. thanks dave

    The headers will be close.

You have two options. Remove the factory disc brake prop valve brkt and mount the valve directly to the frame as 73-77 A-bodies have them. Second, is to build a heat shield.

    Dave-

do you have front discs? I only ask because if you don't, that's not a proportioning valve, it's the warning light switch. Just a small point in case it ever needs replacing, and then you can't figure out why the idiot light on the dash won't work

Funny.....Without knowing, thats exactly what I did 8 years ago when the headers went on and I went "Hmmmm......thats MIGHTY CLOSE !!"

With alittle pushing and prodding of the brake lines I was able to get 3/4 - 1 inch clearance....not the best for a NY car that see's alot of traffic on occasion ( like 45 min. bridge tolls after a weekend away) But....its been 8 years and no sign of a serious problem.

yes its a disc brake car. 71 skylark. i wraped the valve in reflective heat tape. i'm droping the engine in tonight, so i guess i'll find out how much room. thanks for the replies.

motors in. clearance looks good. the only problem i ran into was having to ding the header on the #3 tube. thanks dave

I have good clearance on mine. I am running the Poston chrome headers, so I know that the brand will make a difference. I didn't have to ding them or anything. They do fit very nice!
