Incorrect 71 Factory Literature

I have a 1971 Large dealer brochure, you know the literature the dealers gave out in the showrooms. Well I have looked through it a thousand times and just spotted 2 things wrong. On page 28 they show a picture of a green GS convertible with bucket seats. I know they were available as a special order only, but they shouldn't have put a picture of one in their brochure. On page 29 is the better blunder. The steering wheel used in the white interior picture is a 1970 thick grip GSX Rallye wheel.

For years people I talk to assume that if it was in a brochure it could have been ordered for their car. What you need to think about is when the pictures for the brochures were taken. This literature has a 9-70 (September 1970) production date. I imagine the pictures predate this by some months. This means that either someone used the wrong pictures, they used pre-production or re-done 70 cars for the pictures, or maybe some of the proposed options were canned before production started.
Just thought I would let everyone in on flubs.

I trust you've noticed the the radio buttons in the 70 brochure have the B-U-I-C-K on them...

In the '68 Dealer Brochure the photo of the '68 GS400 convertible shows a car without the stainless steel trim on the sides of the windshield pillars. It looks like they took hardtop GS and cut the roof off to make a convertible for the brochure photo.

I think most of these catalogs made before the cars actually went into production so they did not have actual production cars to use in the photos.

You are exactly right, the pictures in the sales catalogs were done way before the actual cars came out! and many times they were printed with ideas or options that were never available on the model depicted in the brochure, so hence the debate continues! RV

The 66 Skylark GS centerfold in the dealer album appears to have several airbrushed areas, including the front signals, that were far wider than eventually came on the cars.

They were spitting 71 gs's out in late August, so I would expect those pictures were taken more like in early 70. And the cars, they could have been anything from modified 70's, the 1st 71's, or even one of a kind (like Brad C.), then destroyed.

I wouldn't believe the brochures as facts, only a sales tool.:TU:

The 68 brochure had many errors.
The Electra Limited had a 67 outside mirror and different looking cornering lights, The Wildcat convertible had different taillight lenses, The Wildcat 2 door H.T. had the wrong center caps. I think a Le Sabre had the B U I C K lettering on the hood like the 67. The hood on another Le Sabre had no gap with the grille centerpiece. The Special Wagon had round rear side marker lights and the tri-shield on the Wildcat 4 door was reversed. The brochure also mentionned that Shoulder belts were standard on all 68 Buicks and my Wildcat didn't have them... And There were more errors!
The 1976 Canadian brochure shows two pictures of a Century 4 door sedan with the 5" bolt pattern Chrome rims at the rear only! The cornering lights on the Park Avenue were from a 1975.

    That is probably true !!

    That's true:Brow:

    I have discovered other errors....

    :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2: :eek2:

    In the 68 brochure:
-The car that is described as a Le Sabre Custom 4 door Hardtop has Custom exterior trim but base interior trim.
-The Le Sabre 4 door sedan isn't described as a custom model but it is...
-There is a part missing in the front bumper of all full size cars.
-The Wildcat Custom 4 door has 67 seat and chromed inside windshield posts (instead of padded ones)
-The Wildcat convertible has a 67 dash and 65 centercaps
-The Electra 225 Limited has B U I C K letters on it's hood and the part that hides the wipers is separate from the hood.

In the 76 brochure, the Estate Wagon doesn't have side marker lights.
-In the 67 Brochure, the Riviera has it's door lock buttons located like those of the 66
-The GS 400 convertible's wheels looks like the Wildcat's wheels and most other cars have incorrect center caps.
-Curiously the cornering lights on the 67 Electras look correct in the 67 brochure while those of the 68 (that should have looked the same as 67's) were not correct in the 68 brochure.

The only error I have found in my 1975 (Canadian full size cars) brochure is the telescopic steering that is represented as the standard steering wheel in the Riviera.

I recently read a Buick document on Jeff "Yardley" Holthenrichs's
website about the Stage 2 rod bearings and I think my 75 Electra has them (because of the noise) :eek2:

    Look at this!!:

Could you scan that?? It isn't a automotive service book, is it?? I remember as a young guy at the garage trying to gather information andthey had pictures of the grilles of all years and models, including the 71 GS 400!!!!LOL

Later on, tried to get those books off my boss, they had been tossed. Probably good idea.
