In-Dash Fuel Gauge Access Trick?

I've troubleshooted and the culprit is either a poor ground or 12V to the gauge itself.

Damn, Fellas - it's tight up there.

Any tricks you guys might know of to gain access and check the connections without pulling the whole friggin dash? Electrical is not my lane, and it might even be a loose or bad connection to a Pin (?), but any thoughts on this would sure help.

Prob a dash pull, but had to ask. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Nope, you'll need to pull the dash forward to get at it from the top. Have you done it before? Are you sure it isn't the sender or the ground?

Thanks. I put in a new sending unit just to be sure and checked the ground, etc. and did the quick/dirty test on the wire disconnect (goes to F), reconnect (goes to E). It's gotta be the ground and/or 12V supply on the gauge if my YouTube University classes were spot on.

I was looking for anything under the dash that might have come loose, and there are a couple of stragglers under there - but can't seem to find that tan wire from tank or pigtail to trace to complete a full circuit. Maybe there was a splice from a previous owner and I'm just looking for something that isn't there? There is a female pink pigtail and what looks like a ground wire hanging but no luck on where they might reconnect. Frustrating...

No, never pulled a dash but it doesn't sound like major surgery. I will get on it.

Truth. Have one. I'll put this in the "Note to Self" folder...don't know what I was thinking but I rarely work on this ride and it actually took me a while to find it. It's all about the 64 C10 short box these days - driving me nuts!

Anyway, I think I'm at 1st and goal here. It's all about that unconnected dual wire Pink pigtail hanging there under the dash.

My (hopeful) final ask is - where does this pigtail connect? Diagram in attached image states "Gages" in fuse block. Is that a pin on Fuse Panel (there is no pin next to Guages on panel)? Wiring Harness? I'm unfamiliar with that "Gages" icon - what exact hardware it means - and could not find a legend in the manual to confirm.

There is a fuse in the panel for gauges. On the bottom. I don't think the pink wire is anything. The wiring harness includes wiring for options the car doesn't have, like a speed alert.

To get the fuel gauge out, you really need to pull the dash pad and un bolt the instrument cluster from the metal dash. That will allow you to pull the plastic cluster out a little and give you the access.

Did you read my tutorial on the fuel gauge circuit?

When you do, don’t forget to disconnect the gear indicator or you will stretch/break it.:)
