I am looking at several different 70's from here and elsewhere and want to make sure of where and what all the numbers should be and mean. Engine, transmission, rearend ,carburetor, distributor and any others that would be of importance to having on a "correct" car Any input specifically about the 1970 Skylark GS would be greatly appreciated. I am only entertaining a OE 455 (SR) and (SS). Thank you. John
John Go to this site http://www.stage1registry.com/index.html You can find a wealth of info on the Stage 1 here. I know the carb number for a 455 car is 7040240 for auto trans The block will have the VIN on the drivers side deck surface between #1 and #3 Between #5 and #7 there should be an SR code The trans is a BA code and on the opposite side just above the pan rail is the VIN for automatic cars Stage 1 engine code is SS and BB for the trans the carb for stage 1 is 7040246 automatic and dist is 11112016 for stage 1 You will pay a premium for an all numbers car if thats what you have to have. The factory Stage 1 sitre is great as is www.buickperformance.com happy searching and good luck
