TWO cars out of service this week - the GS quit last Sunday on a test drive with a different carb and I haven't had time to work it out yet, and the transmission in the Riv took a dive today - chunks of roller bearings and a whole bunch of metal chips in the pan. I'm bummin' - the transmission is gonna be a couple of grand - there goes my Christmas shopping...
Ouch! Heh, no matter how many cars you own you'll be on foot eventually... Both my buicks are out and the Subaru winter beater broke a steering knuckle. Borrowed a VW and the window crank broke leaving the window half rolled down. All 3 motorcycles are useless due to icy roads. Was on foot for 2 days...
Couple of grand? What year Riv? Turbo400? I got a Jim Burek Turbo400 from Poston a couple of years ago and it was delivered for a LOT less than that. Get a used one rebuilt. Should only be a few hundred$$$ if you take it to the shop alreadt out of the car.
BUMMER! John, They aren't supposed break, has it gotta lots of miles? Might know where there is one too, will check it out tomorrow and let you know. R
i've helped pull and reinstalled a transaxle before and it isn't that bad...even though jim was thinking a little different, it should only still be what, 5 or 6 hundred to rebuild? (i say 'only' relative to a couple grand...i don't think i could afford either numberou: )
Rivvie Trans The car is already being fixed - I can't be without it for long. I did get the GS running to get to work, but the talk is for white stuff tonight and I don't want to be skating around with all that beautiful torque. The car has 128k on it and I've had noise (thought it was my old tires) for about a week. The shop owner gives a two year warranty on rebuilds and can have the car back together early next week. I'll just have to bite the bullet, I guess. Thanks for the sympathy and advice!
Oh, man, I've been trying to GIVE away my '73 Riv's tranny. It hasn't been run since '91, but I would have given it to you for the cost of shipping. For real, if there's some issue where they can't get you a Riv's TH400, I'll send you mine, for the cost of shipping it to you.
Thanks Chris, I appreciate it, but your TH400 won't fit my FWD Riviera - Thanks to you, too, Larry, but the weather looks better, no snow on the ground. I'll drive the GS until the other car is fixed.
Yeah, read that it was a '95 later on. You can still have the tranny. Dad wants it out of his garage...
