I heard this a lot growing up. My mom would yell, "Jim, Slow down!" and he would replay, "I'm not even touching the gas pedal!" This flashback hit me when I was floatin' down the freeway at 70 with my feet comfortably on the floor board. Mom never did say, try putting your foot on the break. "Slow Down!!!" That was what seemed to be Mom's favorite saying when the three of us boys had our learner's permits. I remember one afternoon, Eric had his permit and was driving with Mom and me. I was in the backseat and Mom next to Eric in front. He was stopped at a stop sign at 'B' and Bailey and Mom says to him, while at a dead stop waiting for traffic to clear "Slow down!!" Eric just looked at her and said "Okay. How's this?" o No: :laugh:
"Watch out for that kid!!!!" I'd instinctively lock the brakes, even though I didn't see anyone or thing near the car. The kid was always so far away he couldn't get in front of me if riding on a rocket (like 500 feet to the side).
When my brother was teaching me to drive (in his Pinto ), he would always say... ...prepare for impact!
