Alright so I was on the phone with my uncle last night and besides being a former car nut (wife got in the way) he owns his own business and one of his delivery trucks finally just gave up (17 years old more than 1 million miles) but the drive train in the truck is basically new the 6.5 liter diesel and 3 speed automatic were rebuilt 6 months ago. He was talking to me about helping him pull the motor, and almost at the same time we both said hmmm how would that work in the skylark????? Anyway these are GM p-30 delivery trucks and Im just wondering if it would work and what y'all think would the outcome be if I did it (beasty or wimpy) please let me here your opinion. Kurt
Bad idea. The diesel engines almost weight a ton! :Brow: You would be better off selling the engine and trans. Take the money and build a Buick 455. :Smarty:
GM 6.5 L Diesel?.... (*shudder*).... I agree with George. The 455 is a much better route for the Skylark. Although a torque monster diesel Skylark would be different for sure, I definitely oppose the 6.5L!
Ive never heard of a 6.5 diesel but thats what my uncle said and it really is something that would be weird but I know I would be the only one around this that combo
I own a Suburban with the smaller 6.2L and it is wonderful on fuel and diesel is cheaper. I would love to put a 6.2 or 6.5 in a Skylark and leave the starting line blowing black smoke. I would also love to turbo charge it. If it wasn't for time I would do it. But it would be better to sell the diesel and build a 455. If I was closer I would buy the 6.5 for my Suburban.
IM not to sure about the tranny but I asked him about selling it and he said if I didnt use it then he would hang on to it so I guess I cant sell it but if it doesnt go into my skylark which it prolly wont (its a convertible) we might buy something else to throw it in and take it out for messing with Honda civics
Since you said that it was a three speed auto, then it should be a Turbo 400 with the Chevy bolt pattern. Don't knock the diesels, no pun intended, They are getting quieter every year and the fuel mileage is better than a gas engine and more torque!
Sounds like the pre-94 6.5 Turbo engine. They still had the mechan. pumps like the 6.2's and were not controlled by cam sensors and many electronics. So, they were pretty good engines. Much better than the later 6.5's. Rather quiet and good on fuel. Reasonalble power too. I like those little engines, but not for the Skylark. He might use it in the future in a truck. Good luck with the project.
