We lived in Florida for 10 years and what I learned from that is that summer down there is much more miserable than winter is up here, so we moved back. I missed the change of seasons. Yes, like many of you we are going to have another cold snap for a few days this week, but the key phrase is "a few days". We get it every year, a few days here, a few days there, maybe a week but in Florida when it turns 90 with high humidity, it's for all summer. No need to watch a daily weather forecast, it's just miserable for half of spring, all summer and half of fall. The forecasters can only tell you if it might rain or not, and most of the time they'd be wrong. When people ask me why we moved back up here I just tell them to go south and spend a summer down there and then ask me again, if they even feel the need to. We're here to stay.

I prefer the 3 months of South FL too-damn-hot to the 6 months of up north too-damn-cold. A state full of retirees from up north srems to agree.

I actually find the cold doesn't bother me -' i kind like it. What I don't like is grabbing a sweater, finding a jacket, dammit where did I put my gloves, layer up, layer down, repeat repeat repeat.
In South Florida, shorts and a tee shirt = good to go 350 out of 365, and maybe all 365 if you "tough it out", if you consider 50 degrees "toughing it out."

I am on My way out to get fire wood. I will be out side for maybe an hour and am dressed correctly. 4 layers and it is -5 f. I can add more or come in to the heat. In the summer I can only work outside in the heat for very short spells. 20 min tops I can not peal off layers of skin to be cooler. We have a villa in Mexico that I have been to once in Jan 2010 and I have no interest in going back. I can list many advantages to being in the north and not to many to the south.

Since this is a car forum I'll chime in with the fact that here in north Georgia I can take my car out with the exception of maybe 5-10 days a year. I like it hot and when I've had enough, I like it cold. We get both but never too extreme.

I just washed two cars in 50 degree weather trying to beat the influx of Canadian air dropping in tomorrow.

I love the Minneapolis change of seasons, The Buick can hibernate a few months while it awaits new projects in my heated garage. Then, Out goes the snowmobile. I usually call it too cold to ride at zero degrees.. For those who never rode a sled.. it is the funnest of motor sports in my opinion, but you certainly need very warm clothes.

Wife's whole fam damily is from Wisconsin / Pewaukee. Her dad and mom are the only ones who ever escaped.

When she was two, they drove to St. Pete in February to visit her dad's cousin. They pull up to his house and the dude is washing his car in shorts with no shirt.
Her dad turns to her mom and say's "We're moving."

OBTW, if anyone goes to the Wisco state fair, I can hook you up with free corn and sliders. Family still owns some stands at the Fair and my kids work there every year.

So it was around zero F around here this morning; positively balmy for January, and you should have seen this poor bunch of Cubans I had to tour around at the plant today; bundled up in 3 or 4 layers and freezing to death. I laughed...

Smokey15 So old that I use AARP bolts.

As of the last winters, my wife mentions that if we lived in a warmer climate we could be enjoying our 'old cars' year around. While that sounds good, she would miss the kids and her siblings in short order. I told her if we moved anywhere where there were scorpions, etc., the first time one got in her house, she'd be flying home, leaving me to take care of relocation. :D;).
